09.01.10 / Patriotic Bunting

Labor Day is almost upon us.  How can I tell?  The historic homes and businesses in my neighborhood are dressed in their patriotic best.  I’m especially fond of the fan bunting versus the standard stars and stripes flag.  You can put them just about anywhere.

Porches…

Fences…

Windows…

Railings…

And don’t forget the gazebo… (yeah, like we all have one of those sitting around)

I think fan buntings are a simple and tasteful dose of Americana.  I’d like to try them on my porch.

I picked up nine super cheap cotton buntings July 5th at The Christmas Tree Shop for super cheap (75% off – they were about $3 each) as well as a looooooong striped swag. In my town (Easton, PA) we have a town wide Heritage Day the week after Independence Day because that’s when the Declaration of Independence was read in Easton away back in 1776! The buntings looked great on all three floors of windows of my 1900 rowhome!

Holly – That sounds amazing…the good deal you scored, the celebration in your home town and your decorated rowhouse!!!

I know I’m late commenting, but this post makes me long for summer (and a gazebo) like nothing else!
