...because home doesn't happen overnight.

You must be wondering why I’m writing a post on Sunday.  You say, “What?  She doesn’t post on the weekends!”  Well, let me tell you something.  When you are casually browsing one of your all-time favorite design blogs and discover YOUR HOUSE on the main page from Friday, October 1, 2010….you immediately write a post!  {After unsuccessfully trying to wake your sleeping spouse from a deep sleep to share the news with him/her first, of course.}

I was just catching up on my weekly Apartment Therapy reading only to see a picture of my dining area about 10 posts deep on the home page.  My immediate reaction was “What the heck?!  I just got a new computer and it’s going beserk already!”  I was inclined to think it was a fluke.  However, I quickly realized that there were actual words that went with the photo…words like “Dana” and “House*Tweaking”.  See for yourself. That’s when I started having trouble breathing and doing that weird thing that {I thought only} Miss America pageant winners do.  You know.  Jaw drops, shaky hands come up over the mouth and all of a sudden she seems hideously ugly.  Only I wasn’t wearing a sequined evening gown {I know, odd for a Midwestern mother of two late on a Saturday night} nor did I have hemorrhoid cream under my eyes and Vaseline on my teeth.

I think I even reached up to keep my invisible rhinestone crown from slipping off my head.

That’s so awesome, and yet weird that they didn’t send you a trackback so you’d be aware of the post. Maybe they’re just to big for that kind of thing.

Congrats! Enjoy your crown! You deserve it.

Okay, I’m going to come out of hiding after a week of being obsessed with your blog! You so deserve that little surprise on Apartment Therapy – I love your house with a giant captial L. I’ve been seeing more and more of this lovely grayish colors in people’s homes and finding the posts where you share the colors was great! I will be sure to keep that as a future reference – I think those colors of gray could work really well for me – – warm yet fresh and bright. That’s what I’m *trying* to go for as my style keeps evolving. And that’s another reason I’m loving your style – neutrals with pops of color and interest (especially the pear/kiwi green – my favorite). Love the boys room (I have two little boys and quickly bookmarked their bedroom for future reference) and I adore your kitchen. And your living room. And…

So, being a military family I wish I could make some of the same changes to our base housing and/or future rentals (until we get out of the Air Force and buy something somewhere). But I like to take ideas that I can use now and apply them the best I can to our temporary homes. Thanks for the lovely, divine ideas you share – I’ll be coming back very often!!

Katy – Thanks for speaking up! That means a lot to me. I still remember posting my first comment to my fave blog of all time (way before I had a blog of my own). I was very nervous and hesitant. Wouldn’t you know it though? The blog author responded to my comment almost immediately and I was hooked. Thanks for reading and I hope you find some ideas here to bring some personality to your current and future homes.
