...because home doesn't happen overnight.

It’s that time of year again. Time to hunt down school supplies, take inventory of the kids’ closets and determine what does/doesn’t fit, invest in new shoes for the kids and gather ideas for healthy packed lunches. Oh, and time for parents to celebrate! I don’t know about you but my summer has been full of brotherly quarrels and if I hear ‘I’m bored’ one more time, I might rip my ears off. You guessed it. It’s back to school time.

To help you with your back to school shopping, I’d like to turn you on to a great little etsy shop, OrganiLuxe, that is offering 25% off all their organic, handmade insulated lunch bags, reusable sandwich/snack bags and cotton napkins through the month of August.

The shop’s owners sent my boys two of the sandwich/snack bags and a set of everyday napkins to try. Layne and Everett love them! Especially the mod scooter print. Too cute.

Even though school hasn’t started back up yet, we’ve gotten a lot of use out of the bags and napkins already. I fill the bags up with healthy snacks to take to the boys’ gymnastics classes.

We’re at the gym twice a week for several hours, so the boys need something to snack on while we’re there. The snack bags and cloth napkins work great.

OrganiLuxe products are 100% organic inside and out. I love that I don’t have to worry about potentially harmful chemicals contaminating my kids’ food. I also like the fact that the bags and napkins are reusable. Instead of throwing plastic zip bags away, I just throw these cloth bags and napkins in the wash to use again.

If health conscious, earth-friendly lunches are on your back to school list this year, then be sure to check out OrganiLuxe on etsy. Thanks Leah and Janis!

To score the 25% off discount, no coupon code is needed. Prices already reflect the back to school discount. Offer good until August 31st, 2012.

Do these stain? I can just see mine stained with jelly or fruit juices. Please report as to how well they clean up.
I am concerned for those who use heavily scented fabric softeners as the smell would be on their food. I’m not sure that “mountain fresh” popcorn would be a big hit. We use unscented detergents, but for those who don’t- this might not be the best option for your food.

Are these for dry snacks only? I’d love to get something like this for my daughter, but I don’t know how it would work for sliced apples, carrot sticks, etc unless it has that waxy interior.

Thanks so much for the lovely feature, Dana! I’m so glad the boys are enjoying the bags so much!

To answer the ladies wondering about stains, etc… Good questions! We get those a lot. :) I have put sunbutter and jelly sandwiches in there (we’re allergic to peanuts) using grape jelly, and it washes right out. The only thing that has ever left a mark was mustard, and that was only on the inside layer – they’re lined with un-dyed, unbleached organic cotton.

We strongly recommend washing these bags in eco-friendly, perfume-free detergents. Otherwise you’re just putting chemicals right into the cotton, which goes against the whole idea of them. We want your food to be as pure and clean as possible, so keeping the bags free of chemicals is important, too! :)

As for what kinds of snacks to put in them, they don’t have to be *only* dry snacks, but really wet things like berries are going to get juicy!! I regularly use them for grapes, carrots, dried fruit, etc.

Hope that helps answer your questions! If you have any more, you can always email me at leah@organiluxeliving.com.

Thanks again, Dana!! :-D

I use All Free & Clear for all of our laundry, including these bags. I don’t do fabric softener.

Dana, you always give such thoughtful reviews. I was wondering if you’re going to review your bar stools? I’m thinking of ordering these as well and I was wondering how yours are working out with your kids? I have a three year old and wonder if they will be a safe choice. Thanks a ton!
