01.14.14 / Workspace Progress

Progress on my workspace is coming along. (You can see the plans here.) I hit up IKEA this past weekend to pick up the KVISSLE items and all of a sudden I know where crap is. It’s life-changing! Thanks to the new organization, I’m two for two having Everett appropriately dressed for Spirit Week. Monday, school colors. Check. Tuesday, hat day. Check. Mom of the Year 2014?

The frame for my Married to the Sea print arrived last week and I finally took advantage of Mabrey’s naptime to assemble and hang it. It’s lovely. If you’re counting, that brings the total number of Clare Elsaesser prints in our house to three.

It was my first time using a legit gallery frame as opposed to the ones I normally use from IKEA or Target. Not that there is anything wrong with the frames from IKEA or Target. They’re actually great and I have them all over my house. But this gallery frame is museum quality. It’s that good. The razor thin metal face gives it such a sharp look.

It has me thinking I should use several of these frames to create a big floor-to-ceiling gallery in the nearby hallway. Snowball effect. Don’t you love it?!

My home “office” is the only one I know of that houses a highchair. But it’s temporary. Soon enough Mabrey will be sitting on a stool / chair at the island / table with us. (She already insists on eating her snacks at the island like her brothers.) I could see a step stool or plant stand living there in the future. I have a hard time reaching the top shelves in the upper cabinets so a step stool would come in handy.

Now that I have my desk countertop under control, I’m thinking I should go ahead and address the contents of the glass-fronted cabinets. They aren’t awful but they could definitely use some editing and maybe some attractive storage boxes. I spotted these when I was at IKEA a few days ago. Sorta wish a few had made it home with me.

What about you? Has tackling one project only led to another? What are you organizing these days?

I LOVE that frame. What size is the size of the mat opening and the frame? Trying to see where I can squeeze one in my house!

Love the clean colors, and new work area in the kitchen! I’m redoing my office too, and had a tall stool. Unfortunately it was too hard to sit there all day and work.

Where did you find that high chair? I love it!

15.January.2014

Ooooh, where did you purchase the frame?

15.January.2014

Maybe I’m weird, but I like the pop of color the highchair brings to the space. A bright stepstool or plant could be a lot of fun. And I totally understand the snowball effect of organizing. I am working on my office space now too. Hooray for progress!

My first thought when I pulled up this post was ” My word, where did she get that frame ?”. Looks great! I’m working on a desk area as well..love the KVISSLE items :)

15.January.2014

Oh, I LOVE the red. Whatever takes the place of the highchair in the future should definitely be red.

15.January.2014

Whoa, you are farther than me. I bought some organizing stuff from Ikea a few weeks ago (fine, at least a month ago) and have yet to use it. But I totally get one project creating another – and that’s why panting the paneling in our basement has now turned into me hunting for new rugs, pillows, building a kid art area, etc. I need to save me from myself sometimes. :)

If you follow the link for the plans, it includes a link to the frame. It’s from Utrecht.

Santa brought it last year for Mabrey but I’ve seen verrrrrry similar ones at IKEA ;)

15.January.2014

If you follow the link to my plans, there’s a link to the frame. It’s available with a 5×7 or 8×10 opening.

Looking fantastic!! I have the same exact cabinets in my kitchen. I am a bit OCD and had to buy extra glass shelves so that they would line up with the white crossbars in the cabinet doors. I was so fixated on it, it was all I could see when in my kitchen. I love the work area you have made, so inspiring!

The snowball effect happens around here All DA TIME! Love the art. It does have a museum quality to it. I adore the pop of red in Mabreys high chair and I love a good gallery wall so in psyched to see that too.

Currently tackling little projects in the master bedroom (jewelry display, nightstand styling, over-bed shelf styling, dresser-top styling) in an effort to get my husband to buy into ditching the bulky “desk” we have in there for something more streamlined. This past weekend I edited my clothing and ended up with a trash bag full for donation. Also trolling Pintrest for living room ideas (rugs, minimal accessories). That’s the NEXT room on my list, all while working out of the house full-time and chasing 3 kiddos. Wish me luck!

What paint colors did you use for the kitchen walls and upper cabinets? I tried looking through your old posts, but I must have missed it. It looks great by the way – and I love that print!

One thing ALWAYS leads to another around here- especially when we go to Ikea. We just finished installing an Algot shelf system in our closet for what will hopefully be a closet desk. (http://www.createbakecelebrate.com/2014/01/projects-algot-shelving-install-tips.html)

Now I want to go back to Ikea to get all sorts of organizing fun. Too bad it is so far away. Your desk is beautiful & I think the high chair is a nice touch!

That frame is exactly what I’ve been looking for to hang our Emily Martin prints! And I can visualize it extra well because the colors are pretty similar to those in your painting. Thank you so much!

15.January.2014

And….. I may now go broke buying every single one of her prints….. my walls thank you, my wallet curses you!! :)

15.January.2014

Love how the art looks with the high chair there. I feel like I’m endlessly trying to organize every spot of our house. I think my next project is my guest room closet which I’ve named my Monica Closet from that Friends episode…

15.January.2014

I so remember that episode!

15.January.2014

You’re welcome and I’m sorry. It’s a good way to go broke though ;)

The walls are Benjamin Moore tapestry beige. The upper cabinets are IKEA’s AKURUM Lidingo in white. We didn’t paint them. You read all about the designing, purchasing and installation of our kitchen here, here and here. Hope that helps!

Love the Married to the Sea print so much that I just emailed the link to my husband! Thanks! I’m organizing DVDs. Does anyone have any advice on storing them out of the jewel cases? I’m about ready to take the leap and throw those away and store either in binders or sleeves but wonder if one might be better than another…..?

15.January.2014

A few years ago, I transferred all of ours to small binders that I keep in a basket in the living room. I keep all movies, music and Wii games in there.

16.January.2014

Thanks! I’ll try that!

16.January.2014

I’ve been contemplating a workspace in our little apartment but we don’t have an official “desk” I like the idea of keeping it in the kitchen and using the cabinets to store all of the “office” papers. what do you suggest for an organization system in a space that’s visible to everyone?

17.January.2014

I love this print. It looks great.

I also love the high chair. I’m in the market for one soon and am in the Cincinnati area if you’re interested in selling it anytime soon.

17.January.2014

I’ll probably hold on to the highchair for another year but I will keep your email on file when / if I do sell!

17.January.2014

Is there a brand name on that highchair?

17.January.2014

It’s the IKEA BLAMES in red. Online it looks like a deeper, brick red but it’s actually bright with a little orange in it.

18.January.2014

Thanks! I love the color, simplicity and it looks easy to keep clean!

18.January.2014

It’s looking great, and I love the high chair, simple but useful!

19.January.2014

Love your work space and it’s coming along beautifully! I’m in the process of creating and organizing a work space in our living room. I love checking out your blog for inspiration, you have such a lovely home!!

Oh my gosh, Spirit week!! This year I will have four kids to appropriately dress….yikes!

02.November.2016
