So last week I mentioned we didn’t own a cat. Then, in a strange turn of events, there was a kitten in our house the very next day. It’s a long story. I’ll share it next week. I know I’m not the first human to ever own a cat but when you’ve labeled yourself “not a cat person” for 35+ years and then all of a sudden there’s a kitten in your lap, it’s kinda a big deal. Life is weird like that. Anyway, we’ve been having fun with the newest addition to our family. Lots of cuddles and smiles this week.

Happy weekend! I hope you get a chance to curl up with a good book in your favorite reading spot.

Welcome in the cat lover family ! The climbable apartment is in Clermont-Ferrand, which is where I used to live and work (I now live 45 kilometers away). Ikea built this wall because it opened its latests store there last month (which I already visited twice, since I used to have to drive 2 hours+ for the nearest one before that !)
Clermont-Ferrand is also known for being the city of the famous tire brand Michelin. On a side note : the cathedral you see behind the climbing apartment is black because it’s made of lava stone (known as “pierre de Volvic”, if you want to google it).
Take care, happy kitty cuddles and have a nice week-end !

OMG I loooooove Genevieve! Ive loved her since Trading Spaces. I saw her spread in this months HGTV mag issue and Im DYING over her every space. Her living room is a stunner with its rich dark walls. I think shes just fab and I love that she was able to stay in her house and absorb the adjoining unit. What a dream. Im also a house stalker and have been having the most amazing time discovering the homes in our new neighborhood. Happy Weekend love.

Welcome to the crazy cat lady group ;) I hope your love only deepens. My husband was never a cat person either but I think it just takes the right cat to turn someone to the other side.

Dying to check out more from Gen- we’re on a first name basis obviously so there’s that…

We were adopted by a cat too. It was when my husband was away for work ( things ALWAYS happen when they’re away!). She was mewling at the door trying to be let in and the kids let her in! I was horrified. I’m not a pet person. She was tiny and scruffy and oh so dirty. In an attempt to get the cat out of the house, I fed her! So she never left. Like you, it’s really nice to have her weight on my lap of an evening. Four years later, I think I will now always have a cat in my life. I quite like her.

Love your site and the newest addition to your family is adorable. This is not a design question, but can you please share where you got your cute shorts in the picture?!

So happy to hear about your newest addition! I am a huge cat lover. My husband and I are always saying that it’s amazing how much joy and love our two cats bring into our lives. They shower us with love and we love them truckloads in return! We also love to see the relationship between the two of them (they are the best of friends!) — maybe you should get another one? ;-)

Have fun!

Ahh, kitty love. Yours looks similar to ours. I’m an animal lover so any pet is fine by me. But my husband swore he did not care for cats…until ours worked her way into his heart. They had their own games and special times. My mom swore the same thing, until we took in a stray when I was 12. Don’t fall for the stereotypes—cats are wonderful. Looking forward to the story.

I am curious to know where you keep the litter box!

Awww, what a little sweetie! That’s how we ended-up with our third cat. She refused to leave our front porch and the next thing I knew, she was a member of the family. They pick us – we don’t always pick them ;-)

They are Ella Moss from Nordstrom Rack. I mentioned them here…

They have been a summer staple. So comfy!

Oh wow! Thanks for all the added notes on the climbable apartment.

14.September.2014

I wanna know too!

Wow… Finally a pet.. Mabrey is going to have a blast for sure.. That completes a family right! Small pet for a small home, it is perfect that way too. Enjoy good times Dana. Love the links you share,. It is great that you are finding all these incredible links for us.

Nay, for the robot part though. Don’t know why I don’t like that idea!

Keep Smiling,

Off topic, but this makes me smile: Every time I see https://www.housetweaking.com, I think house twerking. Never fails.

In retrospect, a cat was the only thing missing from this blog.

My daughter (who is 3 1/2) keeps asking me for a kitty. I am NOT a cat person but I must say that the pic of the sweet sleeping kitten may change my mind. We have a lovely 6yo dog who I am sure would leave us if we brought home a furry bundle of ‘meow’. Cheers!

Kittens are so much fun. Enjoy!

You aren’t the only one…damn Miley.

I wasn’t an animal person, and then my boyfriend moved in with his cat. And then I wanted a tiny one of my own, so he brought one home from work one day after he found it and its brothers and sisters in a wall they were demolishing. Those stripy ones, they get me every time (both our cats are striped like yours). Kittens are super fun, and made for following around with your camera. I once found one of ours sitting in the (thankfully unplugged) base of our slow cooker.

In other news, love your shorts!

I’ve been a long time lover of your wonderful decor– especially envious of the textures you choose. However, I often find myself wishing I could use the same materials, then reminding myself I have cats and foster for a local cat rescue. Please, please, please, do not declaw your kitty if she starts destroying your jute and other textiles! Just needed to say that after years of following your blog and telling myself, “at least she doesn’t have a cat to destroy that.”

17.September.2014

Oh, and welcome to the cat world– it’s a wonderful place!

17.September.2014

I’m working on a kitty post as I type! Steve and I have no desire to declaw the new cat. I (now) realize scratching is a natural instinct for cats so I’m trying hard to teach her which items she can / can’t scratch. So far, so good. No furniture or rugs have been damaged yet but I don’t expect perfection. Just cuddles ;)
