snow day

Yesterday it snowed, snowed, snowed. For 12 hours straight! The fridge was full and we had no place to be so it was kinda nice. The boys played outside with the neighbor kids for a while then came inside to thaw by the fire. We read, watched movies, listened to music, worked puzzles and got caught up on laundry. It was a cozy, lazy Saturday but I’m really looking forward to warmer weather.

A few more things to pass the time on these cozy, lazy days…

*Homemade play-doh that makes your house smell like a spa.

*Basement dreams.

*So what if your current home isn’t your dream home?

*A <$300 bathroom refresher.

*Today’s weather.

*For fun, in the dead of winter the kids and I browse realistic real estate finds in an area of New Zealand where Steve sometimes travels for work. The kids’ choice (hello pool). My choice (minus the carpet, plus paint on the brown cabinets and new light fixtures).

*Emily’s instagram feed chock full of old, local houses. Many of them are abandoned. Save all the houses!

*We binge-watched Cosmos and got completely sucked in. The kids loved it. So, so awesome.

I hope you’re having a warm weekend whether it’s spent indoors or out!

Hi, I love it, you are virtually visiting Christchurch to look at houses and I am virtually visiting the US to look at yours LOL the old the grass is greener Eh? Pop in for a cup of tea if you come to do a home inspection. Jacqui in Christchurch NZ

I literally laughed out loud at today’s weather. Probably because I’m in the southern part of the LOL state. Wish I could send you some of our warm weather!

Thanks for sharing the Instagram feed! I love old homes, especially in Cincinnati. I’m not surprised so many of them are in Avondale – the homes in that area are so stately and so beautiful. They are also in such bad disrepair. I did a volunteer event in their neighborhood and just wanted to buy them all!

My husband and I binged watched COSMOS a few months ago…… MIND BLOWN.

LOL at the weather! I live in Texas so we don’t get snow but tons of freezing rain! I love this post. It’s a quick read that definitely put a big ol’ smile on my face!

Basement dreams – have you ever used skethup for any of your projects? We are getting ready to finish our basement and this might be the answer to my prayers. It’s not a little project at around 2000 sq ft we have decided to finish (plus turning a non-walkout into a walkout complete with lots of windows and a nanawall) and I’m getting anxiety daily about the best way to lay out the space. Just wondering about the usability or if there might be tutorials anywhere on the interwebs…

We have used sketchup before. We used it to visualize the TV wall before we painted the brick fireplace and built the planked bump-out. It was really helpful to see how the TV would look recessed and visualize the scale of the planks. We most recently used it to mock up a detached (new build) garage / workshop. Totally a pipe dream but it was pretty fun to play around with.

I know, right? We were surprised by how well it was executed. Some of those effects could have been really bad but they were great!

Your budget bathroom is so cute!

Hi Jacqui! I’d love to take you up on that cup o’ tea if I ever get the chance.

Speaking of saving all of the houses… have you heard of the website Circa Old Houses (http://circaoldhouses.com/)? It is this awesome website with historic houses for sale across the US… I’ve never wanted to buy an old house more than while checking out those houses!

Ooh, I think I have to agree with the kids on this one. That house looks like an every-day vacation!
