...because home doesn't happen overnight.

I’m in the middle of some serious {a.k.a. not really that serious but fun!} nightstand styling over here. I have high hopes for a his & hers nightstand post later this week. Fingers crossed.

We have swing arm wall lamps – as opposed to table lamps – flanking our bed and there are pretty substantial visual gaps between our nightstands and lights. To fill in {or as Emily would say, “engage”…I love her!} the empty space I knew I wanted to add framed art just below the swing arm lamps / just above the nightstands. I bought a pair of these driftwood picture frames weeks ago. Maybe months ago? Yep, they’re the same ones I sprinkled throughout the galleries in the mudroom. {This is not sponsored, btw. I adore these frames and bought ’em myself.} They’ve been leaning on our nightstands waiting for me to make up my mind on art.

Last week whilst trolling etsy, I discovered Printwork and it was love at first sight. I was looking for something simple, modern, gender neutral and the abstract tribal patterns fit that bill. I bought two different 5×7 prints for $22 total during a 50% off sale. They arrived over the holiday weekend and I framed them up yesterday. They look amazing {!} and have stolen this week’s etsy crush spot.

The shop’s creator, Toni, is an architect by trade and describes her block print work as an exploration of scale, proportion, texture and pattern. I love the depth and imperfections found in the prints. Each print is unique and the pieces feel more alive than your run-of-the-mill two-dimensional print. Toni donates 5% of her sales to charity. Good stuff all around.

If you’re interested, there is a free shipping sale going on at this very moment. Happy coincidence. Score free shipping on all U.S. orders with the discount code SHIP4FREE. Score free shipping on international orders with a subtotal of $45 or more with the discount code SHIPFREE45INTL.

Happy etsying!

PS – Etsy crush posts are NOT sponsored in any way. I just love sharing my finds.

Congrats to Sarah and Lynn! Sarah is forgoing a significant other to better the relationship with her children while Lynn’s first date was at a now closed pizza joint.

I’m back with another giveaway for you! This one’s personalized just for your family.

Signs by Andrea offers personalized home decor in the way of rustic monogram, last name and custom wood signs. That, you may have already known. But did you know that the popular sign shop now offers special dates artwork? It’s a numerical graphic design of all the important dates {anniversaries, birthdays, etc.} in your family and it’s available as a DIY printable file, a professionally printed poster or a gallery wrapped canvas.

Note to self: Dana, remember that IKEA frames don’t come in a standard 11″x14″ size. C’mon, you should know this by now.

Andrea kindly let me give the special dates artwork a try. Creating the design was super easy. I included six dates {our birthdays and wedding anniversary} and just typed in our special dates on the builder site. The builder automatically created the design based on the style I chose. I opted for the printable file and an email containing a link to the artwork was sent to me instantly! I printed the artwork via Shutterfly with a gift card I had on hand.

I still need to get a properly sized frame but hopefully you get the idea. I love the black and white contrast and the meaning behind the numbers. HH likes knowing that the six most important dates he needs to remember will be hanging on our wall in plain sight. {HH doesn’t have the best memory.} Layne thought the new artwork was a jumble of nonsense until he recognized his birthdate. Then his eyes lit up when I told him what the rest of the numbers meant.

Now that you’ve seen it, are you itching to win a special dates print of your own? Wouldn’t this artwork make a great inexpensive yet meaningful gift? See giveaway and special offer details below.

PRIZE: special dates artwork printable download from Signs by Andrea {$9 value}. TWO lucky readers will win this prize.

RULES: You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid email address. There’s no shipping involved so anyone with a valid email address can enter to win! One entry per email address.

TO ENTER: Leave a comment on this post proclaiming “DATE ME!”

DEADLINE: Enter before Thursday, October 11th at 9:00 p.m. EST and TWO random winners will be announced Friday, October 12th.

WHILE YOU’RE AT IT: Since we’re talking dates… describe your first date with your current significant other? I’ll go first. A college girlfriend set up mine and HH’s first date. HH and I were crushing on each other but were a little gun shy since we had both recently ended long-term relationships and weren’t looking for anything serious right away. So, it took a little nudging from my friend to get the ball rolling. HH and I attended a small private college in northern Ohio {i.e., the middle of a corn field} and drove to a nearby town for our first date. It was at a burger joint called Ralphie’s. Romantic name, huh? All I remember was that the food wasn’t that great but the company was. And still is! Thanks for the nudge, Cara.

BUT, WAIT!, THERE’S MORE: Now through October 10th, House*Tweaking readers can use the discount code “TWEAK2” to score $2 off the original $9 price of a printable download. That means you get it for $7. It’s never too early to start Christmas shopping! Frameless, these prints would make wonderful stocking stuffers rolled up and tied with some ribbon.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. If you’re like Handy Hubby and me, there’s really not much involved. No date night, no Hallmark card, no chocolates, no flowers…maybe a cheapie homemade gift, that’s it. It’s not that we don’t love each other. We do. LOTS. We just shy away from the V-Day hype and try to appreciate each other every day. Plus, we’d rather save the money for something else – like a new throw pillow or home improvement tool. You know, the stuff that matters most. ;)

This year an unexpected gift turned up. A gift to us from a total stranger.

It’s the Two Initials Sign from Signs by Andrea. We’re smitten with it.

Contrary to popular belief, HH’s name isn’t really ‘Handy Hubby.’ I just call him that on H*T – never in real life. His real name is Steve. Yes, his name is Steve Miller. Like the band. {Insert obligatory Steve Miller Band joke here.} And, yes, at our wedding reception we walked in to The Joker.

For now, the handmade wooden sign is leaning on a shelf in our apartment living room. I can’t wait to hang it at the Underdog. The included sawtooth hanger on the back should make that easy to do. {Don’t mind the green marker…Everett saw that Andrea signed the back of the sign and thought he should too. He then proceeded to mark up his cheeks with a black – thankfully washable – marker to look like a football player. Oh my! The term ‘bed rest’ is NOT in three-year-olds’ vocabulary!}

I especially like the rustic charm. The reclaimed wood is weathered and has signs of a prior life. Love the nail holes. Thank you, Andrea!

Andrea’s sign repertoire doesn’t only include hand-crafted wooden signs but poster and canvas prints as well. Her signs, prints and canvases are the perfect personal addition to any room. Lucky for you, Andrea is being doubly kind and offering a giveaway to House*Tweaking readers this love-filled week!

One winner will receive the Monogram with Name Overlay Sign {$40 value} and another {yup, two winners this week!!} will receive the You Are My Sunshine 8″x10″ Wrapped Canvas Print {$75 value}.

Are you feeling the love yet? Here are all the details on how to enter to win:

HH, I love you more than chocolate-covered raisins. That’s saying a lot seeing as how I ate an entire bulk container of them from Sam’s Club over the past week!
