...because home doesn't happen overnight.

*THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.*

Congrats to Krista who is beating the heat by opting for wagon rides at 7:08 a.m.

Man, was it hot here over the weekend! Our thermostat showed an outside temperature of 106 degrees at one point. Ugh. We were content to sit inside in the air conditioning. We could have used one of these as well…

It’s the Minka-Aire F300-BN, a retro brushed nickel desk fan. Don’t you love modern household items that work correctly and safely but look vintage? I once bought an antique desk fan at a roadside flea market in South Carolina. It barely worked and wasn’t kid-friendly at all, so I resorted to displaying it on top of our refrigerator {away from little fingers} in our previous house. On the contrary, this oscillating fan has all the character of an older model but is UL approved for indoor use. The blades span 11″ while the entire unit is 14.5″ from top to bottom. It comes standard with a low/medium/high/off control switch.

AND…it could be yours, free! Del Mar Designs is kindly offering up one of these cool fans to a lucky House*Tweaking fan. {Get it? A fan for a fan? Cheesy, I know.} See entry details below.

PRIZE: one Minka-Aire F300-BN desk fan {$45 retail value}

RULES: You must be at least 18 years old and have a shipping address within one of the 48 continental United States {no P.O. boxes please} to enter.

HOW TO ENTER: Like and/or follow Del Mar Designs on Facebook and/or Twitter. Then click back here and proclaim “BEAT THE HEAT!”

DEADLINE: Enter before Monday, July 23rd. One random winner will be chosen and announced Tuesday, July 24th.

WHILE YOU’RE AT IT: Since we’re trying to beat the heat over here, tell me how you stay cool on hot days. An icy beverage? A dip in the pool? Long afternoon naps? I’ll go first. With a three-month-old who gets cranky when she’s hot, I’m staying indoors as much as possible. If we do venture outside, it’s in the early morning or late evening hours when the heat isn’t as intense. I also feel cooler when I wear a comfortable dress as opposed to shorts on hot, hot days. And LOTS of ice water is a must! Fresh lemon optional.

Click here to see who won last week’s Shabby Apple giveaway! And if you didn’t win, you can still score 10% of your Shabby Apple purchase now through August 3rd by entering the promotion code housetweaking10off at checkout.

Beat the heat! If it’ s Friday, my day off, I pack a cooler with ice cold drinks and hit the beach! Thankfully, my boys are now 11 and 15 and can help me carry the boogie boards, umbrella, cooler, and chairs. We really enjoy the water, sun, relaxation and ocean breeze.

BEAT THE HEAT!

I’ve been doing a ton of work in the backyard (installing a rainwater collection system), and I’m in Texas, so I spend the first couple of hours outside every day, until it gets too hot, and then I head inside and have a swig of Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade. (It’s THE BEST lemonade ever; I buy it by the case.)

09.July.2012

Lots of dresses and updo’s! Not much makeup either it just melts off.

09.July.2012

Beat the HEAT!!!
I’ve been staying inside while hydrating w/H2o w a slice of lemon, under the AC vent! When I go out I love wearing long Maxi dresses, fresh, and cool.
Sunblock is a must, sunglasses, and we usually try going out after 5pm or before 11am… Here in Temecula CA its supposed to be 100 for the rest of the week…so much for picking weeds!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!

Getting up early to get things done before the heat hits in full force!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! It’s all about staying inside this summer. The heat makes my baby break out.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Am I the only crazy one who enjoys the heat? If its over 85 or 90 I just stay inside with the shades drawn, which makes me crazy since we have so many nice windows in our house.

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!! Drink plenty of water!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Beat the heat!

I still haven’t figured it out so I’m going to try all of your tricks!

10.July.2012

10.July.2012

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I looooove my summer dresses! They are so comfortable and keep you cool even in the hottest weather.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! Living in Florida, I drink a lot of frozen coffee and iced tea to beat the heat. The pool helps too.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! When the temps get too high, I like to stay inside with a cold glass of lemonade – I might go outside in the morning or the evening to walk the dogs, but this past week, we haven’t even been able to do that comfortably.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! Stay inside or in the water. When the temps were over 100 last week our humidity was really low, yesterday the temps were in the 80’s with high humidity and it felt much hotter. Amazing how much the humidity can affect the feel of the air.

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!
I stay cool by drinking ice water with slices of cucumber!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I’m 8 months pregnant at the moment, living in Florida, and it seems the only way I can stay cool is with frozen lemonade – yum!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
I broke down and turned on the central air – ventured outside in sundresses, nothing clingy in the humidity we just went thru!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
We use air conditioning plus fans when it’s super hot. I drink a lot of iced tea and water.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!! In NYC its been blazing hot these last few weeks – I’ve resorted to wearing dresses almost everyday and drinking plenty of iced coffee in the am, and water throughout the day :) Stay cool!

10.July.2012

beat the heat! we don’t have a/c, so i mostly just try to move around as little as possible – or stay someplace air-conditioned for most of the day.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I’m thrilled we finally got a break from our heat wave here in Michigan – windows open again! But while it was miserable, we were on A/C lockdown and I drank ice water all day long.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!
I live in fl. My whole life feels like beating the heat.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I thought I was “beating the heat” over the 4th by traveling to D.C., leaving Houston behind. Sadly, I did not! It was cooler in Houston! It’s been raining the past feel days, so I’m really digging this 80 deg weather!!!

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat! I usually hide inside in the air conditioning. :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We go to my parents house to use their pool! They see more of us in the summer that they’d probably care to! ;-)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Hibernate in the air conditioning, go to the pool, or when we’re feeling adventurous, set up the sprinkler, put on swimsuits, and play bocce ball in the yard. However the later is not an option right now due to water bans.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I can’t say enough about ceiling fans in the summer. My husband, a notorious thermostat tweeker, hasn’t touched it since we installed ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room. One caveat, never above the kitchen table — we did that in our old home and cold food was the result!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!

Man, we could use one of those in our dining room (the only room without a ceiling fan…)

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!! I sure could use a nice fan and I love the styling on that one.

My son has one of those ‘adult sized’ inflated pools. It’s deep enough to be over my shoulders, and it’s shaded. The grandson is always happy to keep me company (since he’s not allowed in it without an adult).

I’m just glad we aren’t on water restriction yet. Rain. please.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!
we make lots of lemonade… cool off in the pool…

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT – beer, ice, lakes, water, pools, sundresses are a must!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I stay cool by spending lots of time in the basement–our house is not air conditioned :(

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I’ve got a six-month old who HATES the hot weather (just like her mama). We’re staying inside. When we have to be out, it is sundresses or tank tops.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I love this fan and it would be perfect in our daughter’s nursery. Sundresses and air conditioning are my go-to’s to beat the heat here in Atlanta.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I am more likely to stay indoors in the air conditioning when the weather gets hot. Not a big fan of the heat and humidity! I’m more of a winter person myself. :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
Laying under fans, ugh I hate the heat

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! If I need a quick fix I just lay on top of the air vents like my big fluffy dog, but usually I try to go swimming to cool down.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! I love it! It would be perfect in my son’s room. He needs a fan so bad and this fan would be excellent! :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
There is no real way to beat the heat in Texas – stay inside with the A/C running full blast!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I stay inside a lot and keep all of my blinds closed – the Texas heat is brutal, so you can’t really avoid it!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I’ve been taking naps with a fan blowing on me to get out of the heat.

10.July.2012

Beat The Heat! We live about 5 minutes from BEAUTIFUL Maine beaches so we spend most of our weekends riding the waves!

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat! Staying inside with the AC on or lounging in the pool…I love summer but I am a fan of the low 80s with no humidity!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I live in New Orleans, so it is HOT and HUMID. yuck yuck yuck. If we had a pool, I’d be in it everyday but since we don’t I just stay inside a lot. Drinking water helps too. And I completely agree – dresses are the way to go!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We’ve been wickedly hot here to. We’ve been staying inside and swimming at the in laws pool in the evenings.

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat! We stay cool by going to the pool.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! Twitter follower (WINitAJ). Last weekend it hit 114 and we had trouble keeping the house cool, so we hit up our fave local ice cream shop to cool down! Wish we had a pool!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! Drink iced coffee!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Must have a fan blowing on me at all times to keep my cool!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! We live in the pool & eat our homemade popsicles.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! We assumed our house had air conditioning when we bought it (what house built in 2000 wouldn’t have it!?) so we beat the heat by hanging out in our basement. We even moved into the basement guest bedroom because it’s too hot to sleep in our master on the main level. I know, first world problems.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Being a little over 8 months pregnant means this heat is even more unbearable at times! I just try to remember that everyone else is hot around me too. I also try to go to my friend’s pool as it feels so good! Otherwise I stay inside during the really hot parts of the day and drink LOTS of water!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!! Would love one of these for my son’s room – poor guy has the hottest room in the house!
(Thank you)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!

We spend a lot of time at the lake to stay cool. Behind a boat is one of my favorite places around, this time of year!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I love a nice cool sweet tea and sitting on the porch. Sometimes, if it’s above 100, I do resort to staying inside in the a/c where it’s nice and cool!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!! We live on an island in the Pacific Northwest, so we stay at a balmy 70 through most of the summer, which is a good thing because only big stores have AC around here. When it does get warmer then 80 degrees we hop in the car and head down to the beach for the day. Nothing like swimming in the ocean to cool you down, especially when the water stays 42* all year long.

10.July.2012

beat the heat!!! I will drink tons of ice water, but a little trick I picked up from my gardener dad… is to dip a wash cloth in ice water and then wear around your neck when in the sun. Feels so good!!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!!!

I love swimming and making sure I drink enough water.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!! We only live 1 hr from Lake Michigan…so we pack up a cooler, grab suits and towels, and head for the beach.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!
Oh, I love these fans and I would totally use it in our non-air-conditioned place!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!
We stay inside most of the day, usually only going outside in the morning and evening. We keep the ac at 77 degrees and ceiling fans on.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We are usually going for a wagon ride at 7:08am!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! We’ve been spending a lot of time in the kiddie pool and drinking lemonade. Thank goodness for the AC too!!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!!!!!

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!

Lots of frozen yogurt and fruit popsicles!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!!!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!

We just spent 8 (yes, 8!) days without power after the storm, with temps in the upper 90s….we spent lots of time at the library, and the pool, and in the cool(er) lower level of our split level home…we survived, but it was really challenging!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!

We’ve had a bit of a cool spell here in CO(70s and 80s so a nice break from the 100+ degree heat!) so that is how we are staying cool. Otherwise it’s lots of ice cold drinks, sprinklers, popcicles and swimming.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!

We head for the lake or pool as often as possible! Or stay inside until the evening… then head outside for outdoor fun time. The Texas heat is hard to beat!!!!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!
We eat lots of ice cream. lol.

10.July.2012

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
Drinking cold ice water and going to my parent’s house to take a dip in their pool.

10.July.2012

Gold Bond….lots of Gold Bond. HH will know what I’m talking about.

10.July.2012

beat the heat! we’re in texas where it is hot hot! we enjoy taking our dogs on walks in the evening when it has cooled down {a bit}.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
We got a pool membership this summer. We are getting a lot of use out of it as well!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I live a block from the lake… it makes hot days pretty incredible playing with the dogs and having a beer.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I agree that a dress or skirt is much cooler than shorts. Ice water is my beverage of choice.

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!!! I stay cool by staying indoors, wearing tanktops, and drinking lots of iced tea and water :) A swim in the ocean is only 5 min away!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! We live in San Diego, so it’s always lovely :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! is only a dream for us. we rent and our place has no ac at all so we just deal by staying in where the temp is 2 degrees in difference. and recently our cars AC went out for reasons unknown to us so we can’t really seem to “beat the heat” these days.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I know ceiling fans aren’t super attractive but don’t have central air and if it weren’t for having a ceiling fan in almost every room we would cook!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Hard to do with our third baby due in less than 2 weeks! (And a happy surprise, too. I know you can relate!) Just finished up with work last week and trying to stay cool in the AC, spending time with the little ones at the beach when it is bearable!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I’ve been trying to stay cool indoors, but really the only solution here in the Southwest is hoping for rain!

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!I sit under the fan with a smoothie in hand =)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!! air conditioning and ice tea!!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! love that adorable fan! we live in the mountains of colorado so it’s rarely to hot here……perfect summers. it’s the snow we try to escape.

10.July.2012

Beat the Heat!

A beer never hurt.

10.July.2012

Beat the HEAT!!!

BEAT THE HEAT!! Lemonade and iced tea by the gallon!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We are in Michigan, just had a storm last week that knocked out power to a large part of the state… so what we did to keep cool was go shopping at stores with power! Visited friends, took lots of cold showers, and camped in the back yard! When we lived in TX, going to splash pads and pools were a must in the summers and lots of otter pops :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! o man i know what you mean. i live in Texas and its a full time job beating this heat! would love that cute fan! To stay cool i try to wear linen and cooler fabrics to work.. and on the weekends i stay submerged at the lake! :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Nothing does it for me when it’s hot than a tall, ice-cold glass of water, with some lemon and cucumber. It’s refreshing and tastes like summer.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!

Staying hydrated!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We do a combo of staying inside, swimming and playing in the water sprinkler. S. Fla hot!

Beat the heat! We joined the neighborhood pool this year and it was the best decision ever. For the first time in 7 years, the kids are comfortable in the water and I’m able to actually sit in a chair and watch my kids play by themselves.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We jump in the pool or take down ice pops. Yumm-o!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Dresses are also my go to when the temperature heats up.

“BEAT THE HEAT!”

Icy beverages are a must! I am always toting around a mason jar full of ice water.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I feel your pain – we’re a few hours north of you (in Akron) and we’ve had lots of 100+ days, too! I use it as an excuse to indulge my most recent pregnancy craving – frozen, blended drinks like blizzards and frappes!

10.July.2012

beat the heat! staying inside with the ac.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I love fans and this style is awesome!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Texas heat is no fun, so I stay indoors as much as possible and use it as an excuse to catch up on lots of reading! Oh, popsicles and ice cream help, too! :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I’m 9 months pregnant, so I just stay in the air conditioning as much as possible. I’d rather pay a high electricity bill than be miserable in this weather!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I am also 9 months pregnant, so I leave the house as little as possible, and spend a bunch of time in our frigid basement. :)

Beat the heat. Totally a nap girl!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!

I like to kick back with an icy beverage and either read a good book or catch up on my blog readin’! :)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I cool off by going to work! We don’t have air conditioning at home (in past years, we haven’t really needed it in Colorado), but my office is nice and cool.

10.July.2012

“BEAT THE HEAT!”

BEAT THE HEAT!
It’s been over 100 for way too long here in Little Rock,AR. Even with AC it’s been brutal. We’ve set our AC higher than in previous years and it’s worked OK. I love to drink lots of iced anythings. Oh, and say inside.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! We beat it with margaritas by our pool and little clothing!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! Texas summers are brutal and extra fans are necessary. I’d LOVE to win this one! Thanks for the opportunity.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Margaritas and poolside parties!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Staying indoors is my secret! hahaha

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
Homemade lemonade.

10.July.2012

Beat The Heat!

Living in Phoenix, I can certainly relate to your intense heat! I swim laps in the afternoon when it is hottest to get out of the house!

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! Living in Houston, we also deal with humidity as well as heat. The baby girl and I head to the gym for a cool place to play!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Stay in the AC or outside in the pool!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT. We hang in our luxury pool (a.k.a. the 10 ft. above ground).

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I stay inside in the AC as much as I can when it’s too hot outside! We also close all of our blinds and try not to open the doors too much.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! (I’m following on Twitter!! @samtasticc)

I just plain don’t go outside. haha. I’m 33 weeks pregnant and we had soaring temps these past couple weeks too…. no thanks!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!!! I have a “poor man’s swimming pool” — the bath tub. Run tepid to cool water, douse my body, and especially my head as I imagine the steam rolling off the top of my head. Ahhh!

I follow on twitter at the same email address.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat!!!! Here in Arizona, we do all kid activities in the early morning, drink lots of water, spend tons of time in the pool, and in all honesty, let our kids watch WAY more tv than they should:-)

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! We stay cool by going to our local water park and hitting the pool.

10.July.2012

Beat the heat! I keep a fan on me most of the day and only go outside for some quick midday vitamin d.

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!!!

10.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

A trip to the ocean is our favorite way to cool down. Once your ankles hit the icy Pacific you feel so much better :)

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
Staying inside in the AC with a constant supply of popsicles is a must!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!
Iced coffee, watermelon, salad, wearing cotton and linen, laying low by reading, watching movies, building with legos!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I like to drink smoothies to cool down.

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Water and lots of it! Our family has been spending as much time as possible in the pool or at the beach or boating in the river.

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! When it gets hot, we hit the beach for some cool ocean breezes and a dip in the extremely cold Atlantic!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Water is our go to to beat the heat. Pool, lake, sprinkler – we are not picky. :)

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I love iced coffees in the summer :).

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Well since I’m 7 months prego – I enjoy the indoors with a nice air-conditioner + fan! Ice Cream always helps too! :)

11.July.2012

I liked Del Mar on Face book and I want to “Beat the heat!” AC all the way!!

BEAT THE HEAT! I go to my best friend’s parents’ pool to cool off! Sometimes a quick dip is all you need to feel refreshed! =)

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! It seems a cop-out but I simply stay inside in the AC on these 100+ days. A dip in the pool is a great option too.

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT

Popsicles and sprinklers!

11.July.2012

Beat the heat! Honey, I live in Houston….need I say more. I go into “hermit mode” and close all the blinds and try to keep it kind of dark in here and sip my iced coffee. Maybe the occasional popsicle.

11.July.2012

Beat the heat! Definitely lots and lots of iced coffee.

11.July.2012

Beat the heat! We stay cool with a dip in the ocean and some cold watermelon. :)

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! We like to hit up the lake when it’s warm – water is the best place to be on a hot day!

11.July.2012

Beat the heat! Iced coffee, sundresses, and my hair in a french braid!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We stay cool by closing the blinds partway, opening all of the windows and keeping running electronics to a bare minimum–you’d be surprised how much heat is generated by a television or desktop computer while running. With the door closed in our office, it can be as much as ten-degrees warmer than the rest of the house!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT (Drill Sgt BEAT THE HEAT)

I used to be in the Army and this was what we had to say when they told is to “Drink Water” :) so instantly my head went to that…

These days… Pool = Must. If there is not a pool near with minimal children (nothing against children—- but i get so scared when there are what seems like 100s in the pool– im afraid someones going to drown or get hurt and there is too much going on to notice.. it makes me a nervous wreck– AND I DONT EVEN HAVE CHILDREN— just dont want anything to happen to them!)

If the pool is not available… something, somewhere INSIDE :) (like reading blogs when ia m supposed to be working!)

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! We live in Ohio and had that awful heat too – not to mention a power outage due to the storm. So we sought refuge at the movies, which is cool and dark, to get away from the heat!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! We are lucky enough to have central air, but in a month, we’ll be moving into our dream house — which is almost perfect, but lacks central air!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Get up early to swim, walk dog, run errands. Hang out indoors for the bulk of the day and then go out as the sun is setting. Makes summer enjoyable.

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I do my gardening in the early morning, sit on the shady patio with iced tea, do inside jobs in the AC in the afternoon, pull all the shades, and open up the house at night to our cool breezes (always in the 60’s) here in northern NE. Oh, and I eat lots of cold watermelon!

11.July.2012

I Beat The Heat in Texas by staying inside with an ac window unit in the room, and a fan blowing!
I follow Del-Mar on Facebook with the name Courtney Tucker and on Twitter @Gothlyric!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I live in a house with radiators so I can’t have central air. It’s been beastly hot here in southern Minnesota and my house was 89 one day. My good friend came over and put my little window a/c in and it’s helped, but mostly I use fans. Ugly fans, really. I could sure use a really cute one like yours. Thanks for the chance.

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Sundresses, flip flops, fans & the Atlantic!

11.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

an extra fan would help ;) We keep the AC on non-stop in our humble abode!

11.July.2012

Beat the heat! Please :)

11.July.2012

Beat the heat! We retreat to the basement but most days in Michigan are thankfully beautiful and just right!

11.July.2012

Beat the heat! On crazy hot days, we just stay inside. Other days we just sweat it out and play outside anyway, but then I give the kids juice boxes in a cool-water bath! They love the novelty of the juice box IN the tub.

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! your posts are always so timely. I’v been looking for a fan just like that

BEAT THE HEAT!! Love these vintage inspired fans =)

BEAT THE HEAT! I have been trying to make dinner without using the oven while it is so hot.

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!!! I’ve been staying inside and only walking the dog later in the evenings. The mosquitoes are another reason I prefer to hide inside!

12.July.2012

Beat the heat! It’s hot all year round in Texas, and I like it!

12.July.2012

Beat the Heat! Even with the drought and heat, some hedges in my landscape are growing like crazy. I have been forced out of my air conditioned house to prune and as long as I wait until that area is in the shade I can tolerate being outside.

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I hide out in the basement and when that doesnt work… a cold shower :)

12.July.2012

Beat the Heat! We actually lost power during a crazy heat wave recently, so our a/c was completely out. Our solution: buying a kiddie pool :)

12.July.2012

Beat the heat! That fan is lovely! My secret in 105+ weather is linen shorts (to keep my legs separated but airy) and iced coffee.

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Since we don’t have air conditioning we take advantage of our basement and lots of frozen sour cherries.

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Smoothies…ahh…just the word makes me feel cooler already!

12.July.2012

Beat the Heat!! I like to head to my parent’s house so, I can sit in the shade and the kids can swim in her pool. Or I stay home in the air conditioning or go to work in air conditioning. :) Great giveaway!

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! It doesn’t get too hot where I live, so a fan is generally all I need.

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT – A dip in the ocean and a glass of icy cold water is how I stay cool!

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! We stay inside as much as possible ;)

12.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We just got central air conditioning, but we had been running fans and hanging around in the kiddie pool.

13.July.2012

beat the heat!

And ice cold water!

13.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

I stay cool (in Texas) with a/c + lots of water.

13.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Sundresses are my favorite way to stay cool — and cute at the same time!

13.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We do all our cooking outside, while pairing it with nice cold beer…very refreshing.

13.July.2012

Beat the heat!

7 months pregnant, I avoid anything outside except swimming :)

13.July.2012

Beat the heat! Our laundry is in the basement and its much cooler down there. So although its a basement, I’ve been folding the laundry and cleaning up down there to stay cool and busy.

13.July.2012

Beat the heat! Two dogs that love to fight the breeze coming out of fans.

13.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Help hold the electricity bill down with another fan.

13.July.2012

Beat the heat! I’m a pool girl.

13.July.2012

Beat the heat! Love the hot weather!

13.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Love the vintage look.

13.July.2012

“BEAT THE HEAT!”

Stay Inside with the air running full blast!! and keep the blinds & doors closed as much as possible.

13.July.2012

Beat the heat! I’ve spending more time in rooms with ceiling fans. When I venture out on 100-degrees days, I put 2 water bottles (and maybe some hydrating snacks, like grapes!) in an insulated lunch tote with ice packs. I toss it in the car and everything stays cool for at least a half-day of errands.

13.July.2012

“BEAT THE HEAT”

We stay in the AC as much as possible….and eating ice cream doesn’t hurt either ;-)

13.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT

I stay cool by swimming every night

13.July.2012

Beat the heat! For all of the drudgery of Chicago winters, I fall back in love in the summer. I love to head to the Art Institute or the beach. Also, I keep a spray bottle in the fridge so we can mist ourselves when we’re relaxing on the patio. Stay cool!

13.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

We stay cool on triple digit West Texas days with dips in the pool, lots of cold beverages, ceiling fans, and a consistent, fairly miserly, but comfortable temp setting on the digital A/C thermostat. And we sleep with a oscillating fan that keeps the air moving during the night!

14.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I love lounging in the pool to stay cool!

14.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Drink lots of water & sit in front of a chic fan ;)

15.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Love the fan! Great for the summer heat!

16.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

It has already been over 100 degrees multiple days this summer and it’s PAINFUL. My favorite way to beat the heat (without stripping off all my clothes and becoming a nudist) is to hold an ice cube on my wrists for as long as I can stand it. I think it’s a pulse point or something – it really works!

16.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Experiencing my first soupy hot summer in New Orleans so I’ve just been staying in the air conditioning as much as possible!

16.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT!

Being in AZ we have fans on 24/7 so I can’t wait to have a stylish fan instead of a cheapo one. I live off of otter pops and a lot of time by the pool :)

17.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! I stay cool by staying inside….!

17.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Ww cool off in the swimming pool!

18.July.2012

19.July.2012

Beat the heat!!

I could really use another fan. I’ve got an air conditioner not working well!

20.July.2012

Beat the heat! I go to the lake as much as I can to cool off. Love it!

21.July.2012

BEAT THE HEAT! Even up here in ther northern states we are experiencing extreme heat! We love taking a dip in the large (still free) city pool or playing in the creek to stay cool.
