Hi, I am a faithful reader of your blog, but have never commented before. Can you tell me how you have your kitchen arranged, what cupboards are your dishes in, etc? We are in the process of building a new house which will have fewer upper cabinets then I’m used to and I feel like I need to think out of the box! Thanks much!!

Were the cabinet colors that you used standard IKEA colors? I love the 2-tone look (especially for my small kitchen), but I’m having a hard time convincing my hubby

Dana, Sherwin Williams also has “chip it”. It’s similar to the pin it button. You just click on the chip button, after you install it on your header, and it will give you Sherwin Williams paint colors that match.

Are you happy with your trim painted white dove? Does it feel too yellow? What would have been your white cabinet color choice if you could have chosen a paint color? Would you have continued with white dove for cohesion?

Our plan for our new kitchen is walnut (or at least walnut-colored) floor cabinets and white wall cabinets. I guess we’re being trendy with the two-tone kitchen idea, too.

Yes. The upper cabinetry is the Lidingo in white and the lower is Ramsjo in black-brown…both standard options.

We’re far from ‘done’ with the kitchen. I’ll definitely be adding more texture and maybe a bit of color as we go.

Like I said, as far as I know, I think they will still carry Martha Stewart swatches – just not the actual paint from the line.

Very happy with the BM White Dove. Not yellow at all. If you’re noticing yellow trim in the image, please note that the trim around the french doors has yet to be painted {along with the actual doors which will go black}. In fact, when we reno the second bathroom the walls in there will be BM White Dove. If we had painted cabinets white, I probably would have painted them with BM White Dove along with the trim. I’ve seen it done before beautifully. SW Greek Villa is another great white that we used in our last house. Loved it!

Yay, thanks for this info! We have different white uppers than you but I don’t think we have anything we need to paint white…though we did purchase under-cabinet lighting and I guess we need to put in trim to hide those. Dang!

BM Simply white is supposed to be a good match for lidingo, too.

How ironic! We are also adding trim along the bottom of our upper cabinets to hide a strip of under-cabinet lighting! Another reason why I needed to find a color match. Great minds think alike.

I really like the 2-tone look of your kitchen. I think it’s a nice trend myself and would have done the same if I could have had a dark grey on the bottom from Ikea (but not the abstrak they have, too shiny for my tastes). We did black lower cabinets with a khaki-ish upper cabinet. It looked awesome. Then we sold our house. We were VERY nervous when the black went on – it looked PURPLE. Ackk!! But it turned out just fine. Five years later, I still want to redo my current cabinets.

Love the green and white scheme…so fresh!

We actually bought special door and trim paint for the french doors while we were at Home Depot checking our paint swatches, among other things. It’s especially made for door and trim and supposed to cut down on brush and roller strokes. It’s not MS Silhouette. It comes in a standard high gloss black. We think the high gloss will be a nice shiny texture to add to the kitchen and mudroom {those french doors are getting painted too!}. I’ll be sure to share the ‘afters’.

I have creamy white cabinets in my kitchen with an apple green island. A few of my cabinets have doors we made out of discarded old windows. The insides of those are painted apple green like the island.

Question – how are you liking your Ikea range? We’re looking at the same model, then PRAKTFULL PRO A50 S.

LOVE IT! Even more than when I did the appliance review because I’ve learned more about all the different functions. The gas top is sooooo nice. And the oven heats evenly, accurately. We haven’t had a single issue with it.
