Our patio reveal is up over on The Home Depot’s blog, The Apron. Here’s where we started…

…and here’s where we ended up…

The goal was to create an outdoor dining space that jives with our simple, modern, cozy style. To see more pictures {day and night!} and hear all the details, check out my post over on The Apron. Bonus: There are many great ideas from other bloggers over there, too, to get your creative juices flowing.

Sprucing up the back patio jumpstarted more outdoor projects. Stay tuned…

This looks amazing! LOVE IT!

This is just stunning! Really loving all of it! We’re working out plans to paint/stain our deck and fix up our patio, build a playground for our daughter, and plant trees/flowers. We’ve already built a new shed too! Lots of yard work ahead! I LOVE spring! Enjoy it…even if it is labor intensive. It brings a great sense of accomplishment amiright?!

If I bring my own picnic, can I stay on your porch? It’s great, comfortable, real…

06.May.2013

Good food will get you just about anything in our house ;)

06.May.2013

So lovely! And I like the red peep toe flats you’re wearing in the HD picture.

06.May.2013

WOW! Turned out so sharp. Did you paint out your door/frame or replace?

06.May.2013

Did you paint the interior side of the doors the dark grey as well?

You never disappoint, Dana. We just bought glossy black paint for our patio doors, but your charcoal has me seriously reconsidering. I love every detail.

LOVE IT! beautiful!

06.May.2013

Nope. Painted them white to match the wainscoting in the mudroom.

The original sliding doors were replaced with french doors during renovation {while we lived in an apartment last year} and came to us pre-primed. I just gave them 2-3 coats of paint for the patio makeover. We love the door color with the red brick and I’m thinking the dingy white trim would look better as a light tan – more like the mortar in between the bricks. But painting out all the trim is a HUGE project that we’re not quite ready to take on yet.

Seriously fabulous! Where did you get the white chairs?

06.May.2013

They were actually the dining chairs in our previous home. I had them paired with a black table back then. The chairs were an IKEA find several years ago. They are meant to be used as outdoor chairs {as on our patio} but they work great indoors too with messy kids!!!

Absolutely stunning. It’s one of my favorite patio make-overs in the HD series, but that’s no surprise as your style is so close to mine :). I always love seeing what you come up with next!
I just ordered some globe lights last week for our patio make-over and bought some new indoor/outdoor rugs. Can’t wait to pull it all together in the coming month or so!

Everything looks great! I love the art piece on the wall!

Beautiful! We have enjoyed some more outdoor living since moving to our current house, though we are limited in what we are willing to do since we will only be in this home one more year. We got an inexpensive wooden dining set from IKEA last year, which we have been advised to seal/treat every-other-year to maintain the wood. Is your new table metal or some other material? I like the low-maintenance of some of the wood-looking-metal tables they make now, but I am afraid of the heat burning little forearms when we dine outside in southern summer temperatures.

So much fun!!! Simple, classic, and chic! Well done!

I adore it. It is so you. Going over to check it all out!

06.May.2013

It’s composite Durawood, no sealing required.

06.May.2013

I love it! I especially love that adorable little girl!

The gray doors make it I think.

What a dramatic makeover…looks so “you”, and beautiful! Well done, Dana! :)

07.May.2013

My favourite HD makeover yet! I love that you ‘shopped’ the house to find pieces to use, it looks so inviting and relaxed. Great idea for the fairy lights!

07.May.2013

Looks great! Do you think you’ll be able to post a full tutorial on how you made the bases for the lights? I need something similar for my house.

Thanks!

07.May.2013

I love the new porch! I also love that you picked a porch set that is so practical. I also downsized last year and I have no idea where I would store a huge porch set/couches, etc, in the winter or cushions on yucky days. Thanks for the inspiration!

07.May.2013

I think Dana’s 4/29 posting has the info you are looking for.

07.May.2013

Dana, I love it!!! I wish I could dine on your outdoor patio this evening! I’m obsessed with the beautiful string lights and all the other amazing accessories! Can I make a suggestion for your blog? It’s something that I realized that they do over at YHL… when you post a link, can you make it so that it pops open in another tab, instead of redirecting your website there? Usually the words linking somewhere else are midpost, so it would be great to keep readers on your page instead of sending them away mid post. I like to read your entire entry and then scroll back to click on the link (okay, yes, I could right click and select open in new tab, but not everybody does that and I think it would help keep traffic on your page!!)

Love your blog, your style and all your beautiful photographs!!

07.May.2013

Hi Dana! Can you share where you found the globe lights?

07.May.2013

Target!

07.May.2013

Sure, I’ll work on it! I like getting suggestions from the peanut gallery.

08.May.2013

Amazing change and renovation…I like it You got a good eye..

08.May.2013

Love everything you do!! Where are the white armchairs from?

09.May.2013

Just read your post on the Home Depot blog. Your newly deorated patio is beautiful. I love the way your strung the globe lights, and your homemade outdoor art. I’m inspired!

09.May.2013

Ikea!

10.May.2013

I LOVE the red kids chair – where is it from?

10.May.2013

It’s an IKEA highchair. We use it inside for Mabrey but it’s lightweight so I can carry it outside on nice days.

13.May.2013

I think our house is the older sister to yours– they really look quite similar! I was wondering if you have ever thought of painting the outside brick? Not that it doesn’t look nice the way it is– your outside looks really lovely!!! Our brick is decent, ecept there are random splashes (concert?) in the front of the house and I am thinking paint would give the house a new look. If you were considering painting birck, do you have any thoughts? When I google- “Painted 1950s house” I don’t get reat results.
Thanks!

13.May.2013

Ha! Just re-read the above post– I didn’t mean “concert” I meant cement! I think my three little ones have transformed my brain:)

05.September.2014

[…] sink but it wasn’t long before they outgrew it. I transferred them to a large outdoor planter last summer (Mabrey was itty bitty!), brought them inside for the long winter then put them back outside […]
