02.14.14 / Made Me Smile

adler doonan cottage

Here are the things that had me smiling this week.

*Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan’s beach cottage in the current issue of Dwell magazine is sick and the interview is hilarious. Two words: tampon commercial.

*Along the same lines…things you won’t find in a boring house.

*I scored this mid century dresser on ebay. (Deets to come.)

*Layne turned 9!

*Belinda is surviving an amazing kitchen reno with three kids underfoot and one on the way!

*15 design bloggers at home. (I just pre-ordered my copy.)

*My sister is visiting for the long weekend. That means chocolate is on the menu.

I hope you do something that makes you smile this weekend. Preferably with someone you love. We are celebrating Layne’s birthday with family. He’s a pretty special kid.

Oh! And I almost forgot. My workspace reveal is Monday!! See you then.

Belinda’s kitchen is amazing! Love watching her homes progress and how she always keeps it real. Aren’t sisters the best, mine just left after a short visit

Can’t wait to hear more about your plans for the dresser! Nice score!

I know you are a family that uses every square inch of your home. I’m curious what you do when you have guests (like your sis) come to stay. Do you organize a special arrangement to house them?

We know all about “realness” over here! Personally, I enjoy seeing the progress.

The boys have a trundle under their bunk. Usually, one of the boys will give up their bed (usually the lower bunk – it’s the best sleeping spot in the house!) to our guest and crash on the trundle. Last night, my other sister (I have TWO sisters) spent the night too so we had two overnight guests. The trundle is completely separate from the bunk so we actually pulled it all the way out to the living room. One sister slept on the trundle, one slept on the couch.

Last weekend we had a sleepover with our boys and three other boys. We had five boys! Everett and his two buddies claimed the bunk beds and trundle in the boys’ room. Layne and his friend slept in sleeping bags on the floor in Mabrey’s room. I laid the cushions from our outdoor sofa on the floor for extra cushion and they thought it was the best. Mabrey was at Grandpa’s for the night. We took all the boys to see The Lego Movie and figured she wouldn’t have made it through the movie. If she had been here as well, we would have just put Layne and his friend on the floor in the living room with cushions and sleeping bags.

We don’t have a guest room but we make it work! We’ve found that the kids really enjoy switching up the sleeping arrangements when we have sleepovers. They are all for sleeping bags on the floor!
