...because home doesn't happen overnight.
09.22.14 / Made Me Smile

This post is going up a few days late but for good reason. I met up with my college girlfriends for the weekend and I purposefully left my laptop at home. Normally, I bring my laptop on trips but this time I didn’t want its presence distracting me. The goal for the weekend was to wind down and catch up. We had such a good time! I’m so happy we’ve been able to preserve this tradition for the last 12 years. It’s never easy to sync our schedules but it’s always worth it.

Without further ado, a few links from last week…

nate berkus fabric for joann fabrics

*I finally checked out Nate Berkus’s fabric line at JoAnn. I fell in love with the Warehem upholstery fabric (shown above) and have been brainstorming ideas for incorporating it into our home. I’ll keep you posted… (FYI – All JoAnn home dĂ©cor fabrics are currently on sale!)

*Modern cat shelters – how timely!

*How to mix old and new cabinetry successfully.

*A DIY kitchen makeover that cost <$500!

*I’ve been waiting for these afters ever since I interviewed Orlando earlier this summer. Gah! I especially like how he carved out FOUR different zones (den, living room, dining area, bar) within one large space. Seriously. I don’t think Orlando could be / do anything ugly at this point even if he tried.

*Yes please!

*Emma’s entry is the epitome of fall.

*My favorite nail polish for fall. (It’s on my fingers as I type.)

*(Technically, this isn’t from last week but that’s the beauty of waiting until Monday to post links.) Daniel is well on his way to becoming the male blogger version of Nicole Curtis. It’s a good thing.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Tomorrow is the first day of my favorite season but it also means winter is near. It’s bittersweet but sweet nonetheless.

That is one of my go-to polishes when I need my nails painted but want a good neutral. Love it!

OMG, when I first read the Manhattan Nest post I was like… Nooooo… not another “I love blogging but it’s time to say goodbye” posts. But by the end I was doing a little boogie. I can’t wait to see how his second renovation goes. If it is half as nice as yours he’ll have a slam dunk. :)

How exciting is Daniel’s new adventure?! I can’t wait to see what he does and read all about it. It would be fun if you could do an interview with Daniel like you did with Orlando – I’d love to read a piece where my two favorite bloggers are combined into one post :)

Nate Berkus has a fabric line at JoAnn’s?! Where have I been living – under a rock?! Thank you so much for sharing. Now I have to go make up an excuse to buy more fabric…er, find a project that needs some super cool fabric!

That’s my favorite nail polish too. I wear it all the time. I also like to paint a gold glittery off center stripe on each nail like this: http://www.lovemaegan.com/2011/11/nude-glitter-nails-subtle-elegance.html.

Hello, Hello :-) Love your blog, I’m fairly new to it. I just purchased that same fabric from the Nate Berkus line at Joann’s. It looks great reversed also! So many options, LOL. I bought the fabric intending to make square floor poufs but who knows.

Thanks for featuring my new/old kitchen, Dana! And I’m loving that fabric, especially that it’s at JoAnn’s.

i’m glad to hear you’re a fan of daniel’s. although i can not for the life of me pin down a decor style of my own, just knowing that many of my favorite bloggers admire each others’ makes me feel like SOMEHOW i am not a total mess

I love how you kept the one bank of old cabinets and mixed them with new. Such a great idea!

Sorry to bother you with an additional cat tip, but I know first-hand the difficulty of keeping an indoor cat hydrated. Cats that go outside can get moisture from their prey or even from rain puddles, but an indoor cat on a diet of dry food will have serious problems sooner or later.

You might consider using your double dish for canned (wet) food on one side, dry on the other. This will help. Then, a separate large bowl in a cool place, near a sink where it can be rinsed out and refreshed daily with cold water, will be much appreciated by your cat — which you will see when you watch her drink. Be prepared for splashing!
