10.23.14 / Easy Harvest Salad

harvest salad 1

A few weeks ago we hit up our favorite pizza place, Dewey’s, and had the most amazing harvest salad with figs, pumpkin seeds, bacon and a cider vinaigrette. (If you ever get the chance to eat at Dewey’s, you must try the Green Lantern. It’s part of their regular menu and they rotate in seasonal items, too.) It was so good that Steve and I couldn’t stop talking about it for days. I decided to try my hand at replicating the salad at home. It’s not an exact match but it’s pretty close. I’ve made it several times now and we can’t get enough. Maybe you would like to try it?

For the salad I used a baby spring mix, dried figs cut in half, roasted pumpkin seeds, uncured apple smoked bacon pieces (You bake it, right? It’s super easy and less messy.) and crumbled goat cheese.

For the vinaigrette, I went with this simple recipe since I had all the ingredients on hand. I just mixed everything in the blender.

Done and yum. Even our kids gobble this salad up. I think I know where all the seeds from our jack-o-lanterns are going to end up this year!

What are some of your favorite fall recipes?

P.S. – Easy fall beans.

This looks delicious, but I have to say – those FORKS! I’ve never seen any like them and I instantly coveted them when I saw them.

Dana! My word – your photography is on point!! I’ve loved following your blog and seeing all of your projects, decor and recipes… and the photos just continue to get better and better. Love love love the way you style your shots (and can’t wait to read more about the fall table decor you posted on Insta the other day) – V

Aw, thanks Vanessa. I’m getting more and more comfortable behind the camera. Taking / editing pictures used to be my least favorite aspect of blogging but now I love it! (The fall tablescape will go live the second full week of November.)

Wow…. I had that exact meal two Fridays ago at Dewys Cleveland Heights location! Totally Yum! Can’t wait to try your recipe. THANKS!

OMG!! Dewey’s!! I LOVE Dewey’s. They are here in STL, and I am sad to say I haven’t been in a long time. Might be time again for a visit. I just love their pizza, and now I need to get this salad with it! I like creating my own pizza (mushrooms, green peppers, pepperoni, onions, and then a sprinkle of red pepper) YUM!!

Oh, it looks delicious! Can you tell us about that table?! Gorgeous!

**Warning to all future readers of this blog post **
Do not…I mean do NOT…read the Dewey’s menu unless you are prepared to drool on your keyboard and hear grumbling in your stomach until your next meal!

Wow…why can’t we have one of those in the area!?

Thanks for sharing your dressing recipe, Dana. This is the BEST salad ever!! For those who haven’t tried it, you should seek out a Dewey’s.

Love Dewey’s. They have the best salads and pizza is delicious too.

We are headed to Cincy next month and will have to check out Dewey’s! And I always love new salad recipes so thanks for sharing. I love the oven idea for bacon. I put my bacon on a cooling rack on top of the foil-lined baking sheet, bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.

That salad looks amazing! I’ve been eating a lot of salads lately so I will definitely try it. Beautiful photo.

We miss Dewey’s soooo much since moving away from the Midwest. Tear. Edgar Allen Poe was our favorite. So garlicky and delicious. Thanks for bringing back good memories for me. Putting your recipe on next week’s line up.

Love the forks, too! What’s the brand and where could I find them. I would love them in a chrome finish.

24.October.2014

i had one can of kidney beans and one can of black beans and bacon. I made your easy fall beans with the chipotle sauce and OHMYHEAVENS. It was the easiest simplest thing. I will definitely be making it again. Just wanted to give a heads up that it works with whatever kind of beans you have!

Spoiler alert: The “table” is two reclaimed boards left over from the beam we used to create the tub’s wood cradle base. Steve asked if I had any use for them (he was going to toss ’em!) and I said “Noooooo!!!!! I’ll use them as photo props!”

25.October.2014

I loooove it too. I’m not sure if this is the exact same fork but West Elm has one that looks like it. Look at West Elm’s “Gold Flatware Sets.”

27.October.2014

I highly recommend getting a log of goat cheese instead of crumbles. It’s the same thing, just not pre-crumbled, but I find that the crumbles are much drier.

28.October.2014

I’m with the readers who asked about the flatware…I’m in love! I want to put them on my wedding registry! Where are they from?

28.October.2014

Agreed! I’d love to know where the flatware is from!

28.October.2014

Dewey’s is my favorite pizza in Cleveland, too! Socrates Revenge all the way. I’ll need to try this salad next time.

26.January.2015

Oh my gosh. I have dreams about this salad. We live in Dayton and have a Dewey’s about 10 minutes away. It’s hard not to eat there once a week. I didn’t have everything on hand today, but I made your dressing and yum. Thanks for sharing!

26.January.2015

Oh and for the dressing I substituted honey for the maple syrup and it came out great!
