01.21.14 / Off to Alt

off_to_alt

I’m headed to Alt Summit this week. It will be my first time attending the design bloggers’ conference. In fact, it will be my first time attending a bloggers’ conference, period. #blogconferencevirgin

I’m super excited but, honestly, I’m crazy scared too. There is a lot of hype over fancy business cards and fashionable outfits but I’m way more focused on learning something new and stepping outside of my comfort zone. For years, I’ve wanted to go but I always have an excuse. The money! The kids! The weather! The timing! I won’t know anyone! When tickets went on sale last summer, I forced myself to buy one.

The timing is less than perfect. Steve is out of town on business this week. My kids had yet another snow day today. I need to run a few last minute errands (with three kids of course!) but the driveway needs cleared and I can’t even see our road. I’m scrambling to pack and arrange childcare. The logistics of everything has my head spinning. At times I’ve thought, “Ugh. It would be so much easier to stay home.” If you’re a parent, I’m sure you can relate.

But I know that life’s most wonderful experiences rarely come easily. So I’m forging on and feeling lucky that these little things are my “big” problems. I mean, I will be staying in a hotel room WITHOUT KIDS for three nights so…that’s pretty much a vacation in my book.

I will be posting to instagram from Alt if you want to follow along!

Most important, HAVE FUN!!!
I find it incredibly hard to get away from the kids (there’s always a good excuse). But once I do, I don’t regret it ;)

I plan on it!

HAVE A GREAT TIME DANA… ENJOY AND RELAX EVERY MINUTE…YOUR TIME ALONE..XO

Don’t you think it’s actually good for the smalls when grownups give themselves permission to step away from the parent guilt trap? Pretty sure that when you come back tired but jazzed by all that creative energy, your 3 will respond to the happiness factor. And you’ll bring your own perspective on Alt here, so that’s something fun for us to look forward to. Adding “have fun” wishes to those that will pile up.

When I travel for work, I always make sure I carve out some time for little indulgences. Baths (or long showers). Painting toenails. Gluttonous tv watching (who cares if it’s The Bachelor or House Hunters!).

Enjoy yourself! The time will fly by and before you know it, you’ll be at home snuggling your little ones again, and likely all of you appreciating each other a bit more than you did before you left.

Have a great time and enjoy the parties, the conversations, and the dressing up too ;)

have a wonderful time! enjoy the alone time, the social time and rush of stupid love you feel when you hear your kids teeny tiny voices on the phone saying good night to you. they always sound years younger on the phone! I’d love to attend one year but, you know, it’s not the closest place!!!!! look forward to your updates x

ps) I made the chicken marbella last night, and as you promised, it was a hit! Thanks so much for the recipe. My husband even said that he looks forward to it being in the weekly rotation. Weekly! That’s pretty impressive.

I know exactly what you mean – I get the same way when I leave the kids but that usually ends when I get on the plane :) Push through the doubt and enjoy! And yes, treat yourself to some indulgence – it’s worth it!
