...because home doesn't happen overnight.

*THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.*

Congrats to Jessena who carried a blue hankie on her wedding day…and lent it to her hubby because he was the one who broke down!

I adore jewelry in the way I adore pillows. With jewelry, I can easily add a classic, colorful or personal twist to any ensemble. With decor, I can do the same with throw pillows. My analogy goes “jewelry is to fashion as pillows are to interior design.” It should come as no surprise that I’m a little infatuated with both.

This week I’m happy to introduce you to BrideBlu, an Etsy shop that offers affordable vintage and handmade jewelry. The shop owner, Cat, has an eye for melding old and new to produce truly unique pieces. Her shop includes over 100 original items – earrings, brooches, necklaces, bracelets, barrettes – that you won’t find the likes of in retail jewelry departments.

Like timeless classics…

Or colorful modern spins on vintage…

And even personal pieces…

Like what you see? Yeah, me too. Lucky for you, Cat is graciously offering House*Tweaking readers the chance to win some bling of their own! Here are all the entry details:

  • PRIZE: any BrideBlu item valued at up to $26…winner’s choice!
  • RULES: You must be at least 18 years old to enter. One entry per email address. No shipping restrictions! That means all you international readers are eligible.
  • HOW TO ENTER: Leave a comment on this post proclaiming “BLU OVER YOU!”
  • DEADLINE: Enter before Thursday, March 22nd at 9:00 p.m. EST. One winner will be chosen via Random.org and announced Friday, March 23rd.
  • WHILE YOU’RE AT IT: Since this Etsy shop’s name – BrideBlu –  is conjuring up thoughts of ‘something blue’ as it pertains to wedding days, share what something blue you wore on your wedding day. Not married? No problem. Tell me what you would wear or what something blue you’ve seen others wear on their big day. I’ll go first. My something blue was pretty standard – a blue garter. The not-so-standard part was the way Handy Hubby removed it from my leg during our reception…after a few drinks…after approaching me in my chair on his hands and knees…after completely disappearing under my dress…for what seemed like a looooooong time…and reemerging with the garter in his teeth. Embarrassing!

Can’t wait to see if you win? After all, Easter and Mother’s Day are both quickly approaching! Receive 15% off your BrideBlu order when you use the discount code HOUSE15 at checkout. Offer good through March 31st, 2012.

Check out Cat’s blog where she delves into life, loves and the handmade. And don’t forget to like BrideBlu on Facebook and follow the shop on Twitter!

Blu over you! Honestly, now that you mention it, I don’t think I had anything blue on for my wedding. I didn’t even think about it! I guess that’s bad luck, but I’ve been happily married so far, so I’m not going to worry about it. =)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! Mine blu was in my garter. Not original but it worked :)

BLU OVER YOU! i can’t remember what my blue was…. seriously. what is wrong with me??? maybe i wore blue underwear.

19.March.2012

Blu over you! I am getting married in September and haven’t decided yet!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

I just got engaged at the start of March and I already have my something blue! My wonderful fiancé chose a ring that has deep blue sapphires in the band underneath the center diamond. I love sapphires and love how they are present in my ring but not the first thing that jumps out at you. Now for the the old, new, and borrowed……

19.March.2012

Blu Over You! I don’t think I wore anything blue for my wedding…not really a tradition in my family lineage :)

19.March.2012

Blu Over You!!! I think I had blue on my garter, but can’t remember for sure!

BLU OVER YOU! I wore an aquamarine bracelet given to me by my grandparents.

19.March.2012

Blu over you! I’m getting married in September, too, and I haven’t decided yet, but it’ll probably be a blue garter.

blu over you! i love the idea of blue under the shoes, i’ve seen that done as a little peek. thanks for offering this-i love those turquoise earrings!

Blu over you ! I don’t think I wore something blue…

19.March.2012

Blu over you! I had one friend wear blue shoes, but the most common I’ve seen is the blue garter.

19.March.2012

Blu over you! I don’t remember if I even wore any blue – after having 3 kids my memory is ridiculously bad! :)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
I wore blue panties.

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
On my wedding day, I wore blue ruffle-butt underpants! Too cute!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! That jewelry is gorgeous!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! Sadly, my story is EXACTLY the same as yours! We got married young, so none of my friends had something blue to borrow. I figured I needed something so went with the blue garter. We had a fairly small wedding on the beach in FL, but yes, lots of drinks and a lot of fun lead to the exact same event….hubby went under the dress and finally came out with it in his teeth…fantastic I thought….I hope no one remembers this! HA! Thankfully, it wasnt the worst thing that happened at our wedding…so no one remembers that part. HA!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
I didn’t wear any blue, but carried it instead. My mom was my florist and incorporated blue thistle into my bouquet! It was the perfect touch since my bridesmaids all wore navy dresses. Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!!

Friday is my birthday! I know the drawing is totally random but, winning would be awesome!

My something blue was my great grandmother’s handkerchief that had blue embroidery on it. It also served as my something old!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

My blue was the embroidery on a hanky that wrapped my floral bouquet. It was his grandmothers with an L on it – which happened to work perfectly!

19.March.2012

“BLU OVER YOU!”

I did the blue and lace garter too.

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I am actually getting married in May. My sister is making me my something blue. I’m not sure what it’s going to be, but it will definitely be a keepsake!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
Not married… but when that day comes I hope to be sporting a gorgeous sapphire ring that belongs to my mom!

19.March.2012

BLUE OVER YOU!
I’m not yet married, but if I were, all that walking on heels would give me black-and-blue bruises for my “something blue”!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
My garter also had blue in it. And my husband also disappeared under my dress for ages to get that thing off!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU, My MIL let me borrow her blue sapphire ring to wear at my wedding. So it was borrowed and blue. A couple of years ago she told me she was going to pass that on to me.

19.March.2012

Blu over you! I simply can’t remember how I incorporated blue into my wedding attire. But blue shoes could be a charming touch!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!! I can’t remember what my blue was, I think I had blue on my garter!!! ;-)

19.March.2012

Blu Over You!
I wore a blue garter too. I think my something old (one of my great grandmother’s handkerchiefs) also had a little blue in it, but my hubby ended up using it more than I did during the ceremony.

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! On my wedding day I wore a pair of light blue heels under my dress :)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I didn’t plan any blue in my wedding attire but my engagement/wedding ring is a blue sapphire, so I guess that counts?!?

19.March.2012

Blue over you!
I wore blue underwear!

19.March.2012

Blu over you! Gorgeous jewelry!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I wore a blue-jeweled brooch on the inside of my dress.

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

I wore a blue garter and had a similiar experience to yours!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I wore a blue garter, too :)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I wore a UNC light blue and white garter – Go Tarheels! Haha.

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

I wore neon blue high heels :)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

I am getting married 9.8.12 and plan to use blue marker/paint/pen to write the date on the bottom of my blue heels. I also plan to wear a little blue jewelry…hopefully from BrideBlu:)

19.March.2012

“Blu Over You”…I did not stick entirely to all of the age old traditions but I do seem to recall carrying an antique handkerchief with blue embroidery. More sentimental was my great grandmother’s diamond ring pinned inside my dress.

19.March.2012

BLU ALL OVER YOU! I also wore a blue garter. I never realized this was such a popular & longlasting tradition. ( I had 3 friends who married the same year I did & 2 of them also did this- The year was 1988!)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! What a gorgeous collection! I’ll be marrying my best friend in June and I will be using all rings to complete the old tradition.. My “Something Blue” will be my blue sapphire heirloom ring that was made from my late Grandmother’s earrings (my sister was given the other), Something Borrowed will by my Mema’s family birthstone ring (all of the granddaughter’s have worn it at their wedding), Something Old will be my father’s wedding ring (he passed in 2003) and then my Something New will be my engagement ring! I plan on looping them into my mother’s pearl bracelet for the ceremony…it’s already one of my favorite parts of our wedding day!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
I love the earrings!!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! My mother in law custom made my wedding sandals and had a dark blue silk insole sewed into them. I’ve never seen anyone else do this and it was exceedingly special.

19.March.2012

Blu over you :). I wore light blue undergarments on my wedding day. I have heard of a bride having her wedding gown embroidered with blue writing, on the inside of the gown where no one can see. The blue writing had a special sentiment, a special date (ie. The date the bride met the groom) or simply the couple’s names. I thought this was such a clever idea when I learned about it. I wish that I had done it!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I’m not married yet so I don’t have any fun stories…but I have seen brides that used a blue marker to write their own and their hubby’s initials along with the wedding date on the bottom of their shoes…which I thought was cute..and made for cute pictures

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
I wore a blue garter too!

Blu Over You! A woman from my office makes jewelry and make me a cute blue ankle bracelet. She knew I would have my own arm/neck/ear matching jewelry so this one could be hidden a bit more under my dress. I still have it to this day after nearly six years. :)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!
I, too, wore a blue garter nearly sixteen years ago when my husband and I tied the knot. Though, I love seeing all the fun and creative ways people are incorporating “something blue” into their wedding these days!

BLU OVER YOU!
I had a pedicure with blue nail polish for my September wedding…almost 10 years go…ACK! Where does the time go?!?!

19.March.2012

Blu over you!

You know, I can’t remember my something blue. I’m guessing it was underwear. Because I know my shoes were something old, my dress was something new and my friend’s antique dangling pearl earrings were my something borrowed.

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I wore my engagement ring, which has two dark blue sapphires. I think I had plans to incorporate something else…but that week leading up to my wedding is still a blur :)

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I wore a blue garter as well. =)

19.March.2012

Blu over you!

My parents went to St. John several months before my wedding and, while there, bought a pair of Larimar earrings for me and a pendant to sew on my garter. (Larimar is a popular blue stone in the Caribbean.) I actually have the earrings on today, so retelling the story made me think about their wonderful origin and smile. Thanks for the reminder!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

I’m getting married in October 2012, and I think my something blue will be a pair of pretty blue earrings… I just haven’t chosen them yet. Maybe they will come from BrideBlu!

BLU OVER YOU!
Forgot about thesomething blue!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU… I wore blue undies on my wedding day! Love this Etsy shop! And thank you for the giveaway. :)

Blu over you!

When I got married my something blue was a handkerchief tied around my bouquet. It was white with little blue flowers on it and I also carried it when I got initiated into my sorority in college. Such a cute way to integrate that I though. It was adorably tied around my bouquet.

19.March.2012

Blu over you! I am not married, but my best friend is getting married this week and wearing blue lingerie!

19.March.2012

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I wore a vintage blue-glass ring from my grandmother. It was actually very similar to some of the rough cut glass crystal pendants in BrideBlu’s shop!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU. Nothing blue at my wedding, but blue is my favorite color.

19.March.2012

Blu over you!

BLU OVER YOU! I’ve only been married 3 years and I can’t even remember!!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

I’m not married but I’m in the process of adding vibrant colors to my wardrobe and a pair of blue earrings might do the trick! On a gloomy day in Seattle, it is always nice to see color in an outfit. Black, Gray and Muted Tone colors are the scheme for our cities weather.

I was married less than two years ago, and I honestly can’t remember if I wore anything blue or not. Is that sad?

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I wore a blue ring given to me by my grandmother.

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU
On my wedding day, I wore blue ruffle butt underwear! Too cute!

19.March.2012

Blu Over You! I wore blue on my garter…real ‘original’ in the ’80s. Right before her ceremony my daughter and her BMs realized she needed something blue. One of the girls had a blue ponytail holder, my daughter popped it down her bodice…she was good to go.

BLU OVER YOU!

I had a custom label embroidered in blue with our initials and wedding date that I ordered through Etsy. 19.March.2012

Blu over you! No something blu on my wedding day. Small wedding, family only…I was 5 months pregnant with husband in police academy and I managed a fine jewelry store. Honeymoon breakfast was Dunkin doughnuts drive thru. So funny to look back now… Two boys and 15 years later… One happy family. All the sacrifices so worth it! No regrets! So excited for your new little one…. Cannot believe you are still posting. Wishing you all the best!

19.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! When I got married, I wore blue underwear with my married name embroidered on it. This might be too much but the way my dress was designed was all I actually wore under it was just my blue underwear. My dress had a built in corset and bra so I was actually so comfortable! :) And keep this in mind, this is coming from a girl that doesn’t wear fancy dresses at all.

Blu over you!!

My something blue was also in my garter. It was mainly white with a pool ribbon in it. Oh yeah, I also wore a bracelet at the last minute that my sister was wearing. She asked if I wanted to wear it so I said sure! Pool was one of my wedding colors, so I was actually surrounded by it all day :)

19.March.2012

I wore aquamarine earrings, and my grandmother’s opal ring pinned in my dress as an old and blue element, and borrowed too. 20.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU!

My best friend and matron of honor, helped me with my “something blue” for my wedding in June. Because I had a fitted gown, I needed just a little flare at the bottom but couldn’t find a crinoline that didn’t make it super poofy. My extremely talented and beautiful friend came to the rescue! For my bridal shower, she presented me with a handmade crinoline with five layers of varying shades of blue tulle, starting dark at the top and moving to a lighter blue as you went down. She also embroidered in baby blue “bride” on the, ahem, back side of the crinoline. It rained on our wedding day so I have LOTS of pictures of me lifting my dress and my little peep of blue showing underneath. It was perfect and I still love it, to this day!

blu over you!

I honestly cannot remember what I wore that was blue… and I’ve only been married for two years! It’s entirely possible that I decided to forgo that, although I did have old (my mom’s engagement diamond as a solitaire necklace), new (my dress), and borrowed (an old gold purse from my grandmother). Hmm…

20.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! I can’t remeber if I wore any blue on my wedding day. I did have something borrowed and something old. My grandmother gave me a handkerchief of hers to put in my bouquet. 20.March.2012

“BLU OVER YOU!”

The only blue I remember (I haven’t been to a wedding in awhile!!) was a piece of jewelery in the brides bouquet. I myself have not had the pleasure of being married yet. :(

20.March.2012

BLU OVER YOU! My something blue was the cutest pair of blue lace undies that said “I do” on them that a friend got for me at my bridal shower! Unfortunately my wonderful hubby had too much to drink at our reception and doesn’t even remember our wedding night!
