...because home doesn't happen overnight.

*THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.*

Congrats to Sarah and Lynn! Sarah is forgoing a significant other to better the relationship with her children while Lynn’s first date was at a now closed pizza joint.

I’m back with another giveaway for you! This one’s personalized just for your family.

Signs by Andrea offers personalized home decor in the way of rustic monogram, last name and custom wood signs. That, you may have already known. But did you know that the popular sign shop now offers special dates artwork? It’s a numerical graphic design of all the important dates {anniversaries, birthdays, etc.} in your family and it’s available as a DIY printable file, a professionally printed poster or a gallery wrapped canvas.

Note to self: Dana, remember that IKEA frames don’t come in a standard 11″x14″ size. C’mon, you should know this by now.

Andrea kindly let me give the special dates artwork a try. Creating the design was super easy. I included six dates {our birthdays and wedding anniversary} and just typed in our special dates on the builder site. The builder automatically created the design based on the style I chose. I opted for the printable file and an email containing a link to the artwork was sent to me instantly! I printed the artwork via Shutterfly with a gift card I had on hand.

I still need to get a properly sized frame but hopefully you get the idea. I love the black and white contrast and the meaning behind the numbers. HH likes knowing that the six most important dates he needs to remember will be hanging on our wall in plain sight. {HH doesn’t have the best memory.} Layne thought the new artwork was a jumble of nonsense until he recognized his birthdate. Then his eyes lit up when I told him what the rest of the numbers meant.

Now that you’ve seen it, are you itching to win a special dates print of your own? Wouldn’t this artwork make a great inexpensive yet meaningful gift? See giveaway and special offer details below.

PRIZE: special dates artwork printable download from Signs by Andrea {$9 value}. TWO lucky readers will win this prize.

RULES: You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid email address. There’s no shipping involved so anyone with a valid email address can enter to win! One entry per email address.

TO ENTER: Leave a comment on this post proclaiming “DATE ME!”

DEADLINE: Enter before Thursday, October 11th at 9:00 p.m. EST and TWO random winners will be announced Friday, October 12th.

WHILE YOU’RE AT IT: Since we’re talking dates… describe your first date with your current significant other? I’ll go first. A college girlfriend set up mine and HH’s first date. HH and I were crushing on each other but were a little gun shy since we had both recently ended long-term relationships and weren’t looking for anything serious right away. So, it took a little nudging from my friend to get the ball rolling. HH and I attended a small private college in northern Ohio {i.e., the middle of a corn field} and drove to a nearby town for our first date. It was at a burger joint called Ralphie’s. Romantic name, huh? All I remember was that the food wasn’t that great but the company was. And still is! Thanks for the nudge, Cara.

BUT, WAIT!, THERE’S MORE: Now through October 10th, House*Tweaking readers can use the discount code “TWEAK2” to score $2 off the original $9 price of a printable download. That means you get it for $7. It’s never too early to start Christmas shopping! Frameless, these prints would make wonderful stocking stuffers rolled up and tied with some ribbon.

Don’t forget to ‘like’ Signs by Andrea on facebook and follow her on twitter!

Date Me!

My babies birthday is 10/10 so anytime we see that date on a clock, we call it her birthday time.

08.October.2012

DATE ME! My first date with my husband included us sitting on a park bench and him saying, “I like you and I’m pretty sure you like me.” We had been friends for years.

08.October.2012

Date me

What a cute idea. My husband and I were set up as well. We had a double date with our best friends and played a board game.

08.October.2012

Date Me! My husband and I went to see “The Notebook” on our first date. Nothing like a Romantic Comedy!

08.October.2012

Date me!

My first date with my husband was at my place, and they continued to be at my place for a couple of weeks. Then I went on vacation with my family, and kept hinting that I wanted him to come. He ended up surprising me a couple of days after I left for vacation and showed up at my hotel door. He spent the remaining few days with me and my family, and we call that our first “official” date because it was our first one out of the house!

08.October.2012

DATE ME!

I met my husband on Craigs List but made him meet me at a public coffee join first so that I could make sure he wasn’t craZy. :)

08.October.2012

DATE ME!

My bf’s and my first date started at a bar (Irish) to make sure we still wanted to go on our official date. A pre-screening! Well I passed and so did he and here we are 2 years later…

08.October.2012

Date Me! Our first date…..good Lord, I just realized you, Dana, and your husband were born the year I met my husband. We had our first date in May 1979, lol!
Our first date -in college – movie – The Deer Hunter – over 3 hrs of the most intense Vietnam war movie ever. It was a good thing I really loved him at first sight, because I don’t like war movies (very upsetting to me) plus he had laryngitis so we couldn’t even converse with one another!

08.October.2012

Date me! I’m the nudger and am really glad to have helped two friends find love! The are amazing people who have a wonderful family and life together!

My hubby and I were also nudged by friends in college to start dating too. So thankful for wonderful friends who guided me to Jerm!!! We went to Grinders a sub shop on our first official date. Nothing fancy but we still love it!!!

DATE ME!!!

My husband and I spent our first date at a friend’s house watching Gone in 60 Seconds and eating pizza. Then he mooned me and I gave him a “screw” from the toolbox that was sitting next to the couch.

08.October.2012

DATE ME!
Our “official” first date was dinner at a casual restaurant. Nothing exciting.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Our first date was dinner at a restaurant

09.October.2012

Date me!

Our 1st date was to Sam Snead’s & then to a local comedy club. (Now) Hubby had wanted to take me out for my birthday. I wasn’t sure about going, but co-workers told me to go – cause he seemed like a nice guy & it wasn’t like I’d have to marry him. LOL. Never say never! :)

09.October.2012

Date me! Our first date was to see “Lord of the Rings” and then split a piece of cheesecake. Cheesy first date. ;)

09.October.2012

DATE ME! I do not have a s/o but I do have a date in which I decided to make a huge change for a better life for my boys and myself. My life was completely changed the days they were born and we have not looked back once since it became just the 3 of us on 7/4/09.

09.October.2012

“DATE ME!”

My first date with my hubby was dinner and an art museum. This same museum was where he proposed (a year later).

09.October.2012

Date me! We were set up by his sister to meet at church and then we went out to a small local coffee shop, Starbucks. ;)

09.October.2012

Date me! I met m husband at school. My family had moved to a new town and I was new at that school. We became friends hat year (in grade 10), but only started dating years later, after graduation. So we are now 36 years old and have been together (=dating) for about 17 years. Can’t imagine life without my best friend/husband. Our daughter, like Jill’s, was born on 10/10 in 2003.
Do you think Andrea could make the date signs with days first, then months? Because that’s how we write down dates in Europe.
Jule from inside 9B

09.October.2012

Sorry for the typos. And my daughter was born in 2005, 2003 was our wedding year.

09.October.2012

DATE ME ! We were coworkers and had a big crush on each other … after a huge day of work, we went out for a drink and … <3

09.October.2012

Date me! My husband and I officially met at a party. We had known about one another for a while before that. Actually I had a boyfriend at the time but that relationship was on the fritz. We talked the whole night which is kind of rare for him to be so open to someone he doesn’t know. He’s the quiet type. I knew he was the one after that night meeting him. Now we’re married and have a beautiful little girl who has captured my whole heart. Life is good!

09.October.2012

DATE ME! We lived in the same college dorm when I was a freshman and he was a sophomore. How scandalous!

09.October.2012

Date me!!

My husband and I had our first date in NYC….dinner at a French restaurant, ride around Central Park in a horse drawn carriage, and a coffee at Starbucks to warm up.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! Our first date was an oh-so-romantic trip to McDonald’s and a movie…we were in high school so we weren’t exactly big spenders yet! :)

DATE ME! Our first date was to a homecoming dance…with 9 other couples :)

09.October.2012

09.October.2012

Oh my goodness! Did you see the Superhero art? I love the “Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero”! Gonna have to get that when I do our son’s room! :)

09.October.2012

DATE ME! Our first date was to a middle school dance party. Me and my hubby are middle school sweethearts!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!
We went to a concert as friends and left as boyfriend and girlfriend! :)

09.October.2012

Our first date was with a group of friends to a restaurant. We hung out in groups for awhile before going on a solo date to an italian restaurant.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! Our first date was at the local Pizza Hut. We ended up having our wedding rehearsal dinner there a few years later.

09.October.2012

Date Me Please! I love this!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

I think that all of us who were set up at that little college in Ohio ended up somewhere completely unromantic for our first dates…the restaurant choices (and probably our budgets) were pretty slim, huh? Our first official date was to Fazzoli’s in Lima for Valentine’s Day.

09.October.2012

Date me!

My husband and I both consider different dates to be my first date. I think it was the time we went out for dinner and drinks after work. Clearly that meant nothing to him because he thinks its a when we went out for drinks in Brooklyn a couple nights later.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

First date with my husband was when I was in 9th grade and he was in 10th grade and he just received his drivers license. We went to our rivals football game since we were playing them the following week and my husband wanted to scout them out. Lets just say not much talking to each other but a lot of yelling at players. We dated 8 years after that and finally tied the knot!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!
Our youngest turns 1 in a little more than a week. It would be nice to add to something like this!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My first date with my husband was during our homecoming parade when we were juniors in high school… my parents’ had kindly volunteered to pull our class float, which was themed for Valentine’s Day and my husband had volunteered to be CUPID… needless to say, it’s still a day we talk about regularly!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My husband and I met in high school, unsure of when our first date was!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!!

My husband used to be my boss..so our first several dates took place “under-cover” since we weren’t allowed to be dating. Now we’ve been happily married for 18 months, and he is no longer my boss :)

09.October.2012

Date Me! swimming at the lake.

09.October.2012

Date me!!

We were co-workers and went to an office party, where we spent the whole time talking. He asked me out and we went to dinner the next night. We’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since. He told me later that he knew I was the “one” because I ate everything on my plate when he took me to dinner and enjoyed every bite. He said he was so tired of buying girls a dinner that they picked at because they wanted to act like little birds that never eat a thing and then went home to demolish whatever was in the kitchen because they were starving, ha ha.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! The hubs and I had a very simple first date. He was house sitting and invited me over for a movie and some take-out. It was very sweet with no mischief, but it was the start of something wonderful!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!
My husband and I were good friends for a long time before we started dating. We were also really broke, so there weren’t many dates. Lots of times we would just go to Sonic to get lunch/dinner and sit in the car talking for forever.

09.October.2012

Date Me!
I met my hubby at a wedding and it was love at first sight for him, but took me a little longer to agree to future dates. We got married really soon after that and are very happy! I’m glad he pursued me!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Our first date was sneaking into the Grand Wailea Hotel and swimming and hot tubing and walking the beach. Now 14 years and two kids later….best date ever!

09.October.2012

DATE ME! My first date with my husband was when we were both in college. We walked to a local coffee shop and talked for hours. 10 years later and he’s still my favorite person to talk to!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

First date? Two beers at a dive bar and I was instantly smitten.

09.October.2012

Date Me!

Blind Date – bar. We went out ever since!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My hubby and I had known each other for 10 years before realizing that we were perfect for each other…we had our “first date” at a terrible greek restaurant in our neighbourhood and drank lots of wine to calm the nerves. It was awesome! (And we haven’t been back to that restaurant since) :)

09.October.2012

Date ME!

He bought me a flower for the homecoming game my freshman year in high school and asked me out. We have been together ever since! 23 years later and he is still surprising me. :)

09.October.2012

DATE ME!
Funny story – I worked at a mapping company with my best friend throughout college and took 6 months off between my undergrad and grad school. One day I asked her who the cute “new guy” was. She told me. I asked him out a week later AND GOT TURNED DOWN! He later told me that I looked so pitiful he asked me out the next week. Our first date lasted 12 hours – a Beer Festival, the Science Museum and a baseball game. That was 17 years ago and We’ve been together ever since!

09.October.2012

DATE ME! My husband and I were friends before we were a couple and life kinda threw us into a relationship before either of us realized it. We did go out on a “date” to a nice restaurant, but it was more of a formality just so that we could say we went out on a date and that became our anniversary.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!! Honestly, I don’t think my husband and I had an “official” first date. We’ve known each other since 6th grade, were best friends throughout junior high and high school and kinda randomly ended up together. I think I’m going to make him take me out on an official date now.

09.October.2012

Date Me! My husband and I were set up by a mutual friend. Our first date was dinner, that led to drinks, that led to playing darts and being silly. We didn’t want the night to end. And it hasn’t! Still going strong almost 10 years later.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My husband and I were set up by his sister. I first met him when I was only 18 and crashed a dune buggy with him in it as the passenger. It was a pretty bad crash and we didn’t see each other for a few years. Then our first date was at a local brewery where we had fresh pretzels and beer.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!!! Our first date almost didn’t happen–I asked him the night before if, “this was a real date” because I was pretty gun-shy then too! But my now-hubbie took me to a local deli and told me all the reasons he was interested in me, and why he wanted to pursue me. I pretty much melted then and there, how could I resist? And the rest is history…

09.October.2012

DATE ME!
My hubby and I’s first date was to a haunted house! So much fun!

09.October.2012

DATE ME

My husaband and I went to our Fall Harvest dance at our church for our first date.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!!

Im not sure if this really qualifies as our first date but I had been talking to Will for a month or so (been friends for 3 years then got drunk and told me he had feelings for me) when he kept trying to make plans to go out to dinner. I kept turning him down because work was really busy then one morning he just said “Im coming over tonight”. It was April 14th and since I work at a CPA firm, it was a busy time. He insisted, came over, brought dinner and the rest is history. Our second date was to pick out engagement rings. :)

09.October.2012

“DATE ME!” My husbands and my first date was to an Oktoberfest celebration…we had lots of good food, beer and fun!

09.October.2012

DATE ME! We were so young that our first official date would probably have to be prom. 14 years later and still together!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Me and my boyfriend are high school sweethearts of 10 years!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!
Hmmm, first date with hubby, would you believe I can’t remember! Honestly, we knew each other for years before we started and serious dating – but “as friends” we did go and see a David Copperfield show. At the time I thought he was being nice with an extra ticket – I had no idea he had a crush on me :)

09.October.2012

date me!

my first date with my husband was awesome…we saw finding neverland and he pretended to enjoy it, and later told me hated that movie..hahaha

09.October.2012

DATE ME! We went rollerblading around Chattanooga, TN. He fell, I caught him, and the rest is history…

09.October.2012

Date Me!
Wow, our first date was 19 years ago while we were still in high school. We first met at a party in the woods but went out the next weekend on our first real date. We went put-putting. I still remember what we wore:) We got married 8 years later.

09.October.2012

Date Me :)

What an adorable idea – love all of the options

09.October.2012

“DATE ME!”

I hit on him at a bar, with a really cheesy line..

09.October.2012

DATE ME! We met in a class Freshman year of college and realized we had the same birthday–same year, same day. A little strange, but what a thing to have in common! So, even though we have three kids, our date print could be one less line since we don’t have two separate birthdays!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

He took me to one of those all night diners, the type that serve breakfast 24/7… He only ordered coffee which made me super nervous, I can’t eat food alone! So I just ordered tea and a bowl of fresh fruit. I was starving! We’ve never been apart since.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

His sister set us up on a blind date, and embarrassingly enough, we met at a dance club. Which is hilarious if you knew how much that is NOT my scene.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! My fiance and I met on myspace (remember those days before facebook?). We chatted for a couple of months and then finally met at a Starbucks. Have been together ever since…

09.October.2012

“DATE ME!”

The first date with my wife was at the swimming pool downtown

09.October.2012

DATE ME! what a great give away& glad it’s not U.S. only :)

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My husband and I had our first date at the Seattle Aquarium followed by ice cream. It has been bliss ever since. Fourteen years and going strong.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! My first date with my husband was to a friend’s country western party!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

First date with my husband finally came after 6 years of friendship and him trying to get out of my “friendzone”. As if it wasn’t already going to be awkward enough, my roommate’s dog pooped on the floor right by the front door about 30 seconds before he knocked. The house STUNK and when I let him in I had to make sure he knew it was the dog that did it, not me. Ha! I was super embarrassed, but now after 3 years of marriage we just laugh about it.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! My first date with the Mr., since I worked at an arena and he was a referee, we went to a hockey game. Flash forward 26 years of marriage and he is still a hockey referee and my office is located in a hockey arena complex even though it is not even related to hockey. We recently painted our bedroom “icerink”!! Go figure!

09.October.2012

Date me! Our first “date” was 15 years ago and went to Kings Island. Who knew that a middle school romance would turn into forever!?

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My boyfriend and I met through a mutual friend. He was an aspiring photographer, and so was I. We clicked right away. We started going around the city to photograph the urban life and learn from each other’s photography skills, as friends. I was very shy but he was gentlemanly and super sweet. He started to like me first and I had no idea. I invited him to a family function we were having at my moms place with close friends and family. The next day he asked me to be his girlfriend.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My husband and I met in college, but we didn’t start dating until 6 years later. We were reconnected through a mutual friend and went out to dinner and drinks to catch up. We sat in front of our menus talking for so long that the bartender finally took our menus away!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Our first date was on my husband’s birthday. I had no idea until our date was just about over.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Coffee and an old bookstore and the best conversation ever :)

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

We went to see the movie 2012 and laughed and pointed out how inaccurate things were.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!! My dad set me up with the son of one of his long-time friends (he’s 7 years older so we never knew each other growing up). He invited me over to his apartment for dinner — which I thought was really weird / non chivalrous at the time – but I went along with it since our parents had been friends for 30+ years and we had been talking on the phone quite a bit. I figured maybe he wanted to be able to have a good conversation without the noise of a restaurant. He informed me over dinner that he didn’t take me out to eat somewhere because his license was suspended b/c he was charged with a DWI… Needless to say I won’t be letting my dad play matchmaker ever again.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!
it would be a great gift for my sister and her newly merged family (4 kids in all!)

DATE ME!

My first date with my husband… we hung out numerous times at parties with friends, etc but I guess our first real date was to the movies.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! Our first date was the day before what was to be our official first day. Mid-way through the day one our plans for that evening fell through and we asked if we could bump up our date, and did! (But 11 years later I can’t remember for the life of me who was the one to do it.) We took a long drive through the countryside, and were married 11 months later.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!! :)

our first date was looking at christmas lights in chicago

09.October.2012

DATE ME! My husband and I aren’t sure what our first official real date was. We were friends, who transitioned into dating, so it just sorta happened – when he kissed me :)

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My first date with my husband was out to supper at Carlos o Kelly’s and then to a Haunted House. When we were at supper, I asked the waiter where the bathroom was, and apparently there was a sign right next to our table pointing to the bathrooms. My husband doesn’t let me forget about that on to this day. :)

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

We went to a kitchy pizza place in Somerville MA which I just found out has since closed.

09.October.2012

DATE ME! I wasn’t the nudger, but remember this so well! I love that so many of us found our hubbies right in the middle of that cornfield!

My first date with Scott was at Olive Garden (not much classier than Ralphies). I loved it then and still do! I had manicotti – my food was great!

09.October.2012

Date me!

We went on a picnic on the beach. My hubby lost a bet to me and had to plan the whole thing. 2 years later he took me back to the same beach, got all the same foods, and proposed.

09.October.2012

Date me! I love this idea.
Don’t have a significant other!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Hubby and I originally met at work but it took us two years to actually “find” each other ;). Our actual first date was at a circus and I’ll remember the rest of my life the atmosphere and the feeling of looking at him as something else than just a co-worker.

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Well, there’s a bit of disagreement between us as to when we started officially “dating,” but after I agreed to “be his girlfriend” we went to a big Mother’s Day party my family was having. He survived and stuck around! :)

09.October.2012

Complete aside from the contest – for the odd-size Ikea frames, any place that does custom framing will usually cut a custom-sized mat for CHEAP if they aren’t busy. Just carefully take your measurements (what the outer dimension of the mat should be, what the opening should be), select your matboard, and ask the people in the framing section to cut it for you. They usually will for free if they’re nice, or for cheap, depending on the store policies. I’ve had custom mats trimmed at Michael’s and JoAnn’s this way, and once at a Dick Blick store. Wayyyy cheaper than getting a new frame, plus you can pick whatever in-stock color will make your artwork pop!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

Our first date was a “blind” date after a number of online chat sessions back in the day. When he came up to me, I felt so anxious I thought I might get sick right there but he pulled me into a hug and so it began. We’ve been married 13 years now!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

I met my husband in a pub in England. It was a crazy fun night and I scored an amazing husband in the end!

09.October.2012

DATE ME! Hubby and I’s first date was to a lovely Italiano restaurant back home and a movie. Very romantic in my opinion ;)

09.October.2012

Date me!

My husband and I went to Little Rock, AR for our first date. We ate at a bar, although that was by accident. He was from South America where all the restaurants and businesses and homes are downtown, and didn’t know that only bars tend to be open late at night. It was an interesting first date, but I knew right away that he was a keeper!

09.October.2012

DATE ME!

My hubby and I went to Vancouver, Canada for our first date. We lived in a college town just 30 minutes from the US-Canada border so it was common for students to go across – closer than Seattle, which was 90 minutes away. He forgot where the sweet little Italian bistro was though, and by the time we found it it was closed! So we ended up at a dive bar called the 2 Parrots and had burgers and beer instead. Best first date ever! We went back there for our 5th wedding anniversary/10-years-together anniversary this summer. :)

10.October.2012

DATE ME!!! (Pretty, please.)

Well, my first date with my husband occurred in the autumn of 1995. We were both college students and had attended the same high school. We knew off each other and ran in many of the same social circles, but never really hung out, nor talked. While attending a going away party for a mutual friend, he asked for my telephone number and we agreed to ‘hang out’. Of course, this was a code for a date. Our date consisted of viewing the Brad Pitt film “Seven”. I know, quite romantic, no? Immediately afterwards, he took me home and we spent the remainder of the evening listening to the “Best of Hall and Oates” and snogging in his car. Here we are 17 years later, married and with three children. I would love to commemorate the special dates in our lives. Thank you for offering this give-a-way. Also, I just love hearing ‘how we met’ stories. I have hosted a few bridal showers in my day and always make a point to have each guest tell their personal ‘how we met’ story.

DATE ME!

My husband’s & I’s first date was also because of the doing of friends. We went bowling and I remember my “future” husband had the quirkiest bowling technique that made me laugh so hard. I knew it was meant to be. :)
