In The Works: A Painted Rug

I’ve been thinking of painting or staining a stencil onto our dining rug.  (The following picture was taken before I painted the pantry door with chalkboard paint.)

As is, it’s a very durable seagrass rug that provides much needed texture to an otherwise “flat” area.  But it lacks interest…a pattern would be nice.  I like the idea of sprucing it up with just some paint or stain.  It would be cheap and pretty easy.  I’m studying these painted floors and rugs for inspiration…

As soon as the weather looks like it will cooperate for a few days, I’m taking my seagrass rug outside for a little project.

Cool! I would be worried about messing it up, but I’m not very good at staying in lines :)

Dana! Love the painted rug idea. Let me know if it works out! Also, just wanted to let you know to be sure that the butcher block countertops from ikea are the correct thickness. Someone told me they are thinner. Granite is normally an inch and a quarter thick. Just thought I would past the info on to you!!

Gail – Thanks for the tip on the IKEA butcher block! I’ll definitely check the thickness before purchasing.
