...because home doesn't happen overnight.

While I’m taking a short blogging break this week and being whole-heartedly inspired by my family and surroundings, you can pop on over to Apartment Therapy today to read an interview that Re-Nest writer Landis Carey kindly asked me to participate in.  It’s all about our current efforts to downsize.  I know that witnessing this whole process of selling our home and buying a more affordable one is probably starting to feel a bit drawn out {I’m right there with you!}, but this is real life in real time and I wouldn’t want to portray it in any other way.  These things don’t {and should never} happen overnight.  I just keep reminding myself why we’re doing it and I’ve got my eye on the prize, well, prizes…debt freedom and a fulfilling career in design someday.  That’s the plan anyway.

Thanks, Landis, for such a wonderful opportunity to share our downsizing quest.  If you’d like to read the full interview, click here.

Happy Thursday to you all!

Great interview! You are so inspiring!

Your interview is truly inspirational, Dana — More than you know! Even though we just purchased our first home, my husband and I recently started following a plan to become debt-free in the next 5 years (with the exception of our mortgage). We keep telling ourselves that even if we have to live without doing anything major (there are a lot of projects we want to complete!) to our new home for the next couple of years, it will be so worth it to be debt-free by the time our little girl (due in June) is in kindergarten. “Live like no one else now so you can live like no one else later.” So few people are actually willing to do it, so you really deserve a big ol’ pat on the back, and I’m looking forward to following along with you on your journey to freedom!

Wonderful interview! My hubby and I live in 1250 square feet, and I can’t imagine cleaning or living in much more square footage, even when we have kiddos in a few years. Thanks for sharing your story and inspiring the rest of us!

Just came across your blog because I like a picture of your bedroom ..
Congratulations on the apartment therapy interview!

I think your head board looks gorgeous did you mad a post about it here on your blog?

All the best from AMsterdam

Oooooh, boy!! You downsized, too!?!?! Arizona’s market tanked a few years back–we were so very upside down, it was ridiculous!! We, too, are aiming to be debt-free and to live more simply and have come a looong way! We short sold our home last August and have been renting and enjoying the smaller space and a quieter life. And now we’re buying again!! We put an offer in on a place TODAY (two actually, in my folks’ neighborhood…one as a back-up to a first offer, one the first offer, both with the same floor plan and only a block apart!) that is smaller than our first home and the price is $15,000 less, too….it’s so amazing!! I am dreaming of decorating it, this time with LESS and very slowly and deliberately, just how we need it to work for our family. I’m excited to read more on your blog!!!! :)
